So I’m working with the CS on a Slash Derrig Appetite model. They sent me the following samples to select the top and I thought I’d get some opinions (about the flame, not on Slash and his guitar lol).

I like 3 and 16. I don’t want the stripes too skinny; 13 looks cool but it has that vertical line running down the right. Anyways, thanks in advance for the (constructive) responses!

26 then 3.

26 seems uniform w/ flame from side to side.

3 is big and wavy but the right side in the pic looks like it might wash out as in peek-a-boo flame.

It's 3 for me...by a mile.
Other than that I'd ask for another selection to choose from.
But then again I hate flame to be too uniform and tight.....others may not.

31, 3, 26. It could be the aging, but the original looks wispy with minimal uniformity to me. You may ask them to spray the tops with water in order to get an idea of how they will stain up. I would look for a top where the flames/lines touch/cross before getting to the outside....does this make sense, randomness? As mentioned above you may ask for additional tops. I'm guessing you have additional guitars to tide you over and I can't imagine this venture being cheap. I would wait and get exactly what you want. I'm jealous regarding your experience with this. Have fun my man! These torturous first world problems we have...I hope you survive!

Btw I think that none of the examples are good.
Derrig got more pronounced lateral grain
Uneven horisontal reversed chevron flames that are stronger along the edges.
Thick along the edges and almost pinstripe at the center.
The faded burst might boost this effect.

And depending on angle it changes alot.

Btw I like the late 80s look before the burst lost most of its colour.
