An awful lot of journals are owned by the major publishing companies and those parent companies have more than enough money to say "Fvck you, try taking this to court."

The mining lobby successfully stalled the publication of this report by 3 months past their legal review period. Beyond that, any major action to suppress by the mining lobby I believe would be a lost battle. At least I would hope so.

Internal combustion equipment underground is just an explosion waiting to happen. A spark at the wrong time in an environment full of fuel dust... (worked in underground construction 96-98. I know a little of these things)

We needed a Govt. funded study to find this out?

Yes, because apparently people are too stupid to live - or "they" think we are

It doesn't take a lot of brain power, to figure out that engine exhaust is bad.
Hell, running a car engine in a closed garage is a way to deliberately commit suicide by carbon monoxide. It isn't such a big stretch to see the 'connection" to one or more engines (diesel, gasoline, whatever) in a MINE.

Not in any rational court, but it doesn't have to. All it has to do is get to the Roberts Supreme Court and the Wingnut majority will make it all go away.

Did you comprehend the premise behind the movie "American Beauty?" :D

We needed a government funded study to move the issue out into the public eye, so the fight against the coal companies can proceed to another stage by providing legal leverage against the bastards.

There's more to it than people being stupid. The law plays second fiddle to politics in our era of government by big business. It takes more than logic and precedent to prevail against big money interests (see Citizens United, Bush v. Gore). It takes an intricate, long-term public relations campaign based on logic and precedent. This study is part of it.

This is just another tobacco industry type hunt by lawyers to start the suits to enrich themselves with yet another "class action" scheme. Steve said it best above that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that running an ICE in a closed mine isn't going to be particularly good for anyone...duh!....and that we needed a twenty year, governmental alphabet soup bunch of bureaus to study this tells me its a boondoggle from the beginning to end....how much did this "study" cost us? All you had to do was call a garage and ask the mechanics if running an ICE in an enclosed space was a good idea or not...Geesh!! No wonder we are 16 trillion in debt and don't have any jobs, not an once of friggin common sense applied to an obvious problem in twenty years!!

Not if the premise had anything to do with the Surpeme Court's fascist majority.

This isn't about lawyers, this is about people in unacceptable working conditions. Unfortunately no industry or government is going to accept the word of Fred's Garage, they need an in-depth study for the correct H&S regulations to be made and implemented so that the risks on peoples lives can be minimised. Don't equate it to the tobacco industry, equate it to the use of asbestos.

I was thinking about people like you and exPFC...I think it's sad that you'll be stuck on stupid for the rest of your life.:thumb:

And I think it's sad you'll have a rest of your life.

But you can't always get what you want.
