Had 2 originals and a KTR that are long gone. Don’t think you can get any closer than the Ceriatone Centura in looks and tone. No reason to buy a real Klon while this pedal still exists and is still affordable.

I have several different clones but only after I got a RYRA Klone I sold my original Klon. Fantastic pedal.

I tried several

Wampler Tumnus is what I kept

If you want pedal knowledge, there are few better, more knowledgeable guys than these guys. Not only do they compare a bunch of the clones WITH original Klons, but they also talk about how the Klon is/should be used.

And then here they do Klones Plus, that do the Centaur thing and then some

If you watch any of the more recent (1-2 years) klon shootouts they have left the Soul Food out.

maybe because it is the most affordable option?

it's a conspiracy....

Yeah, Mr. EHX doesn't subscribe to the 'gouge their asses' mentality.... Tons of Soul Foods out there.... Hot Tubes... Crayons... Etc..

Some prices I see on pedals are ridiculously ridiculous.....

A bud's studio keeps a Soul Food sitting on top of the old Bassman head.... He has all kinds of pedals, some with tubes, but the SF was a perfect match to shove the front end of the Bassman... He had tried a bunch on the Bassman... I dropped over to help him on a project and brought my SF to try as I wasn't using it... Perfect match.... If the Bassman is turned on, the SF is in the chain...

About any of those pedals will do the same thing. Point is, the SF being at its price mark should call into question the price mark of some others...

One could take any two or three of those in a good room and set them to sound identical. Note: The knobs would NOT be in the same place... That really gets me on ANY comparison vid of things with knobs built by other companies..... They don't do it the same way with the same components with the same curves and tolerances.....

Mystique sells...

I have a KTR and a Ceritone and prefer the KTR for low and mid gain settings. Its really a tremendous pedal and getting expensive. i paid 349.00 new a few years ago. The Ceritone Centaur is an amazing "always on clean boost". it really makes any amp sound better. that one cost me 339.00 recently. I tried the archer and thought it was darn good, but couldn't dial that mid magic the others had. Tried a soul food and chucked it the same day. I hated it. I have played an old silver horsie original and thought it was pretty special.A slight difference in the way it interacts at higher settings. It was different but not 4000.00 dollars different. if you have the budget get the KTR if not the Ceriatone is pretty great.

LOL..I did the same with the Soul Food!

I think the EHX Hot Wax is a damn cool idea.... Crayon and Hot Tubes in one box, independent kick buttons... One on all the time for chicken leg greasy and the other for stank...

Don't need one but will probably buy one...

The cheapest you can get is a Clone to assemble yourself for 38$ shipped. And it’s far from being bad sound wise. But it’s a hassle and you have to be good with a pcb and soldering iron.
I’d go for an Archer: you can find loads on the pre-owned market for a very decent price.

I have played through a real Klon and have a Mosky Golden Horsey. I like it fine. It is not magic or anything. Sounds like me playing through a good pedal. I think certain amps take it better than others. My son plays through a Marshal Valvestate (which he loves) and we had trouble deciding if the pedal even works? Not a true tube amp. Then I plugged it into several all tube amps and it DOES work but it is fairly subtle. If you are chasing a very specific tone you may find it. If you think it is going to make your poop no longer stink, you may be disappointed. I am a decidedly average guitarist. My best guitars through the best amps with the Klone make me still a decidedly average guitarist. But one that looks good.

Edit--full disclosure--we bought our Klone just for the hell of it. Not for any need or purpose. The $30 I spent was considered "entertainment" dollars, not gear dollars. We had $30 of father and son entertainment talking about it, waiting on it, and plugging it in. I am saying that for background on my "meh" recommendation. It is ENTIRELY possible that one of you does have a "poop does not stink anymore" experience.

I chose an Archer Ikon a year or so ago and am happy with it through an Origin 20H. It generally had very good reviews, but usually topped in shootouts like those in this thread by various models. Agree with many that various pedals work better with some guitars and amps - your guitar(s), your amp(s), and your tweaks. If you can’t find the sound you’re looking for - sell it and try another.

Tone chasing sometimes requires kissing a lot of frogs.

Bill Finnegan posted Wednesday on his Instagram that he will be holding a Klon livestream event Friday with an “update of interest.” Hopefully referring to KTR production. Would be nice to see them available again.

Anyone tried the RYRA Klone? I've come close to buying it several times, but haven't quite gotten there. Opinions?

I've got a Pedal PCB Kliche Mini in the hopper. Basically a Klon in a 125B enclosure.
