Anyone seen this? I thought it would be awful, but I found it absolutely riveting.

It's unreal how much politics and subterfuge surround the Donkey Kong high score.:laugh2: Hilarious and entertaining flick, I highly recommend it. :thumb:

I never watched it, but I hear Billy was pissed at how he was portrayed in the film.

A really entertaining film, but not very accurate for a documentary. Neither of the "main characters" held the high score for Donkey Kong at the time it was filmed, and they both knew it. The documentary makers realized that these people were a goldmine of weirdness, and framed the film as a David and Goliath story, which is great fun, but not the real story.

There's a MUCH better doc called "Chasing Ghosts" that explores the entire arcade phenomena a lot more thoroughly. Unsurprisingly, it features most of the sam people in King of Kong, and a bunch of others as well. It's really great, and a lot more balanced look at these aging gamers. I'm not sure if it's been released yet, I heard a few of the people featured in King of Kong felt betrayed by the inaccurate portrayal of the arcade scene, and didn't want to sign releases for other docs. I don't know if that's true, I saw a screener of the film.

And yeah, Billy Mitchell still seems like an ass to me. :)

The trailer for "Chasing Ghosts". I hope it finally gets released, I'd love to own it.
