I was just listening to AFD last night, it got me thinking about how awesome they could have been. I'm a huge Slash fan, no not a fanboy, some of his stuff does kinda suck, but once Izzy left they went to hell. If the Illusions were one album with the BS taken out it coulda been a great one though, as they are they're just really good with some bad mixed in. "Get in the Ring?" Really?

And thanks for the review, I'm hoping that I'll be able to see Slash one day, he needs to come to Va.

Slash said in his book that he wanted to boil the material down to a dozen great songs but Axl wanted to record them all and clean the slate.

Considering how it all went down in hindsight it was probably a good idea to do that. Otherwise there are a lot of songs that could have gone unheard and all of them have at least some redeeming value IMO.

Or they could have used the ones that didn't make it later and saved us from the mess that was The Spagetti Incident.

Never seen GnR myself but from what I've heard I don't really want to. I would have loved to see them back in the day with the original line-up of Slash, Izzy, Steven, Duff and Axl. Unfortunately I wasn't alive back then. XD
But I did see Slash on his 'We're All Gonna Die' tour with the release of his first solo album and he puts on one hell of a show, honestly. Great guy. =)

(I feel like I'm intruding into a conversation about the Illusion albums though... But I have to agree, some of the stuff on there is rubbish and it would've been better to release one album filled with greatness rather than two which aren't all that good. =P)

His point was that if they had been saved then they would never have been heard as the songs would have stayed with the band into the Chinese Democracy era.

Hopefully Slash and Myles will come a bit closer to where I live on their tour. I'd love to see them live. I really enjoyed the Made In Stoke DVD and his new album.

Who knows if they would have recorded them at all though? They could have stayed as demos forever or (even worse) ended up staying in the hands of Axl and his synth n' samplin ways

But now here's a fun question: If you had to boil down UYI to one album what would you keep? This would be my list:

Dust N' Bones
Don't Cry
November Rain
The Garden
Garden of Eden
Coma
Civil War
Yesterdays
Get In The Ring
Breakdown
Pretty Tied Up
Estranged
You Could Be Mine

There are Slash pictures from the event but it appears like good old Axl disallowed the photographers so this one will sum it up.

For me I'd have to add Locomotive, Coma, Don't Damn Me and remove Dust and Bones.

It would make for one long as album though... November Rain - 9 mins, Locomotive - 8.5 mins, Estranged - 9 mins, Coma - 10 mins, Civil War - 7 mins.

Those 5 songs are longer than most albums these days.
