So I've been wanting a fuzz for awhile now. I looked at a few and some were cool but didn'tfully grab my attention. Swollen pickle seemed too thin for me, pharaoah was missing something, I'm a bit gun shy on a muff because of the metal muff, and the musket was a bit pricy. I had my heart set on a Hoof, it's raw, wooly, and had great reviews, but then saw the Cloven Hoof here. It won me over, a Hoof but even more nasty? Dig it.

So it's originally 175, but vintagekingaudio had it for 148 for the black friday sale. So I threw out financial responsibility and jumped on the deal. I'm trying to build a nice cache of pedals for a pedal board. So far I have an octasynth for 8 bit weirdness, a joyo flanger, and a metal muff (which is probably going to rot). Now I have a fuzz coming, and probably next is the BlackArts Black Forrest overdrive and an MXR Carbon Copy.

I'll let you guys know what I think when I get it.

Also..question. If you have a pedal you dont like, do you keep it and hope you eventually bond with it or just cut your losses? If I ever had a desire for a metal pedal again, I could easily grab a cheap joyo or boss. I know trade in on a metal muff wont yield much return but its redundant now, it's just too shrill.

I haven't sold off any I don't really like, except for one to my brother, who was exploring pedals at the time. I hold on to most of them and plug them in from time to time just to see what I'm missing. I usually take them off the board, hah!

The metal muff though...I think that's something you could ditch, and if you were really needing another one you could pick one up for cheap. Frankly though, if you want metal, there are much better options, in my opinion.

Also, looking forward to your thoughts on the Cloven Hoof!

So...got an e-mail that it's out of stock, but should still ship within ten business days, or sooner from the manufacturer. I hope so, Earthquaker Devices shows it being out of stock on their site also.

Quick rant...if it's out of stock SAY IT'S OUT OF STOCK! That really irritates the piss out of me. End rant.

Anyway, I sent them an e-mail asking if I'll actually get it, because if I don't, I lose out on the sale, and I also lose the chance of finding it on sale else where since today is the last day of the deals. Hopefully not.

I know they'll give the sale price, the concern is more that they turn around and say "Yeah it's out of stock...totally, order is cancelled". Oops, now it's a days later and I didn't get a chance to order something in lieu of that. It's sort of my Christmas gift from my wife so I'm hoping nothing crazy happens. Hey...they could order one from amazon and ship it to me...amazon has a ton of them. :)

I'll have more complete thoughts in a few days, but with ten minutes, I dug it. A lot . Very versatile fuzz, could probably get you Melvins or Stones tones. Sounded great through my Orange with a Les Paul Studio, curious how my Marauders single coil and triple bucker will sound. Great stuff though, very musical, not noisy, everything comes out clear (fuzzy but you hear what you are playing).

Very happy thus far, I should have plenty of time on Christmas to give a real good spin.

I'm curious to see what else you have to say about it.

Btw, the Metal Muff and any other Big Muff have very little in common other than gobs of sustain and being a tad noisy. Much different EQ characteristics and feel. Regular NYC Muffs are scooped but really warm and hairy. Nothing like a Metal Muff.

So I've had some time with this bad boy, and I'm still very impressed. There are a lot of tones on this guy, like I said before, you can get that sort of high pitched fuzz that you would hear on a song like Satisfaction. At the same time, you can get that bassy, angry fuzz.

I love the tone of my amp, but I'm not sure if I'm going to play without this pedal very often. The tone with my Les Paul is just so damn tough sounding, it really has a punch to it. The pedal isn't noisy either, there isn't any kind of weird hiss, buzz, or bad feedback, very nicely done.

Definitely prefer it with the Les Paul compared to the Fender. It sounds good with the Fender, but this is a hard rocking pedal and just makes a better fit with the Les Paul. Definitely play this one on your clean channel as the dirty channel sort of muddies the sound (though it's horrible or anything, just personal preference).

I don't think I'll ever need another distortion pedal, this thing is pretty much what I had in mind. I might still get an overdrive someday, but this dude seems to cover my fuzz base perfectly.

And to add again, this is played through an Orange. So Orange + Les Paul + Cloven Hoof = Nasty in the best way.

I've had regular hoof for a long time, major love to Earthquaker, they really seem to make quality stuff. I've got a ton of fuzz pedals, but the hoof is just the one that you can almost leave on. Congrats on your purchase.

As far as pedals that suck, hang on to them, when you inevitably get into building your own pedals, half the fun is cannibalizing ones you already have!

Another regular Hoof owner here, being sorely tempted to get a Cloven one too! One of the many amazzing things with this pedal is the absurdly low noise floor - it's often pretty hard to tell whether it's on or not when you're not playing. Most impressive!
