I just bought a 1998 Gibson studio project. It is stripped down, with all the parts with the exception of the pups. It was wine red (but has been stripped), with gold hardware.

This is my question.

I never cared much for gold hardware. I am assuming this LP doesn't have any "collector" value, or may never. That said, I want to sell/trade the gold hardware for nickel or chrome. Is that a mistake with Gibsons? Or is it better to keep them original? Or does it matter unless it is a vintage or otherwise worth tons of $$$?

Thanks for your advice.

I prefer chrome to gold on anything but a custom, so if I were you I'd do the same thing.

You wont gain or lose much value, so go with whatever color you prefer.

Cool. Thats what I was hoping. I would hate to change it up and someone swallow their tounge because I lost value, hahha.. But then again, never really cared what others thought about my choices.

Next question. I already have an Epi Les Paul. So, does that mean Gibby guys wont talk to me unless I get rid of the epi? Or can they get along in the same house? :hmm:

There's lots of epi love from a lot of Gibson owners here, but not me personally, I've owned a couple dozen epis and not one of em was worth it's weight in spam.

As we all break out in a Monty Python nostalgic moment,
