I’ve been watching the evolution of the finish colors non-custom shop “regular” Gibson USA juniors since 2018 and I’ve noticed there’s a lot of variance in the colors of the fronts and the back/sides/neck.

The burst color of my 2018 is distinctly yellow and the back/sides are a very dark maroon. The current model is a darker burst - more like a butterscotch color and the backs look more brown. But I’ve also seen backs of 2019-2020 juniors that are dark maroon, brown and reddish brown/mahogany. This isn’t variance in wood color - there seems to be a distinct decision being made with the finish colors.

... and then when I look at Custom Shop 57’ Juniors the fronts are more of a yellow burst (like my 2018) and back and sides of the earlier ones look black.

Why such variance? When I look at vintage Juniors, some are a little more maroon on the back and sides due to fading, but they’re pretty consistently yellow bursts with brown back and sides. It can’t be THAT hard for Gibson to find examples for reference. What’s the deal?

Pics of my 2018 - love the yellow burst, on the fence about the script Gibson logo, don’t really care that much because I got a really good one that plays and sounds amazing.

You got a nice one there. The script logo wouldn't bother me at all.

Yeah, I don’t how many of these “Limited Editions” were actually made, but it was just one year, so that’s kind of cool.
