Hi folks,

I'm looking at a satin cherry LP Junior '58 Reissue in the local shop. I can't find any information on this guitar can anyone help?

What pots and caps does it have and is the wrap around tailpiece aluminium or zinc?

The guitar plays really well but I have drawn a blank on any specs... :hmm:

Not an Historic, but a regular Gibson USA model from a few years ago. Should have a similar wraptail to other recent USA Jr's, like the 60's SG Jr.

Thanks,

I knew it was a Gibson USA model rather than custom shop model. The pricing puts it at a little bit more than the standard junior - it also played a lot nicer but that could be down to just the guitar in question.

So inside it will have the same little cap as a regular junior?

My wife has set her heart on the little guy for her birthday and I'm not inclined to dissuade her but I just want to know if it is worth upgrading to Faber or Tonepros parts and PIO caps or if it has this level hardware already. :)

You might not want to upgrade the bridge - I tried a Callaham upgrade on my SG Jr and, while it sounded great and had lots of sustain, it didn't quite fit properly on the stock studs and felt weird. I went back to the stock bridge which truthfully sounds fine - not amazing, but plenty good enough for a cheap guitar.

You will get some benefit from upgrading the stock electronics - I went with an RS Guitarworks kit in my SG Jr and it made a noticeable improvement. Whether it's worth the cost, will be for you to decide. :)

I upgraded the tuners on my Jr, too and that brought a little more sustain.

Thanks. :)

I'm not really bothered about the little details of accuracy of a specific year like 1958 - I'm more trying to get feel for the overall quality and the level of parts it's running.

After running around Denmark Street last Saturday resulting in me falling in love with a 2013 '57 Goldtop Darkback Historic Reissue  we went back to Nevada today and picked up the original Gibson USA '58 Reissue Junior for Clare.

It will have to go back in the box until her birthday though.

Thinking about similar. I work for the company that sells musical instruments. We received one in 2011 (pre-raid production) and it had a bad nut. We removed the old nut, but the responsible person forgot attach a new one - just put a guitar to gig bag and cartoon.
I found it last week in warehouse, a buddy put a nut ... Amazing guitar - especially good resonating body, great neck. GAS! Never thought about Junior ... In my country this is a very unpopular guitar. Looking for opinions about that model - Junior '58 reissue.

The one we picked plays and sounds great. I have to say I am very impressed for the money.

It needs a couple of rough edges taken off the fret ends but that is a five minute job and I have played much worse much more expensive guitars.

The p90 sounds exactly as it should.
