Frank, with all the respect you deserve, we as customer deserve it too, and I just saw photos of the pickups of this custom shop replicas of Joe's PAF and I am totally disappointed! It's hard to find any one more knoulageble and experienced then Seymour Duncan, yet I can't really figure out why are the covers and baseplated and screws all wrong for a almost $400 PAF replica, this goes beyond me.

I appreciate an honest response because at that price range is not just about the tone.

Thank you.

Nicolas,

a while back there was a discussion in the amp-section of the forum where Lyle Caldwell posted his opinion on the Marshall Class 5 and how, he felt, with small changes / mods that would cost cents to Marshall, this amp could have been a much better amp. I don't know if you happen to stumble on it. However, Marshall went they way they went with this amp and the amp has many short-comings, especially for Lyle (and not only for him).

IMHO, this is the exact same story repeating. You do get what I want to say.

I think what Frank is saying is they were going for SOUND, not necessarily looks.

And IF you either don't know what i am pointing out or simply don't understand it, you should have better stayed quiet!

I know this may seem stupid to the mayoralty, and believe me that i know how stupid i sand with things this small, but, you have no idea how many winders are making an effort to do it right, yet, i see this kind of details overseen by such names as Seymour Duncan.

I completely understand what Frank said, and that this details i pointed have nothing or way too little of influence on the tone that is what they accomplished, but i have to point them out.

Nico, I do understand what you are saying, but 99% of buyers don't care and that 1% that do care will order from Wizz, Sheptone, ThroBak, etc. And those guys make damn good pickups...you know it and I know it. We both own some.

SD is catering to the mass market. It's the same reason Gibson gets the font on the reissue poker chip wrong - 99% of people don't care. But we care because we both bought RetroSpec replacements.

To your point, it would be ideal if SD got it right on this one. I don't know much about how pickups are made, but perhaps it would have required some retooling that would have been expensive? Especially with this being a limited run...

Nico, I do understand what you are saying, but I just don't think Seymour Duncan cares about creating a PAF that looks vintage. 99% of buyers don't care and that 1% that do care will order from Wizz, Sheptone, ThroBak, etc. And those guys make damn good pickups...you know it and I know it. I accept that completely for the line that does not say "Custom Shop".
I know that you and many of us have been users of Seymour Duncan pickups in the past and i for once would love to see something from a man of such experience compete with the boutique market that is just that, a custom shop that offer the attention to details not offered by the mass spruced products.

Now, i now that Mr. DUncan does what he does because it is what he believes and i know that a simple "shut up" answer is, those little details i point have no influence in the tone and i don't believe they do, but they are details and SD has the capital to do a proper baseplate.

What i have learned here is that maybe Joe B. is not that nuts about vintage details as i thought and that i am completely nuts.....

I wanna say first that, I love Joe B. He makes great music, he has great tone, he is one of the worlds greatest players ever, and I buy all his albums and DVDs, I see him whenever he's in town. I support JOE!!!!
But...you ever notice how he changes guitars five times in a set, but his tone stays the exact same?....DUNT DUNT DUHhH... Joe B. Uses Rack pre-amps and effects units!!:wow: GASP HOLYHELL GASP, the hell you say! Yes its 100% true, I know it for a fact as I've seen it with mine own eyes. Let it be known Joe B. Is not a vintage purist!:wow: Damn it! Now we gotta burn him at the stake!lol

saw him 2yrs ago at the coach house in san juan capistrano. its really just a big bar, so it wasnt too hard to see backstage. i really wasnt supposed to be where i was so it wasnt particularly the time to be whipping out the cell phone and shooting pics up peoples noses, you know. his opener was a guy who played an acoustic into the mic, so i know that set up wasnt his. at that moment i was really kinda disappointed, but its not like its not him playing and he knows how to rock a joint and on my second thought, thats all that really matters. i mean really what the hell do i care how he gets his sound, as long as he gets it. a little while after that i saw an interview where he explained his rig, think its on youtube, also guitar world mag did a complete drawing of his rig on the last page about a year ago. so if you dont believe my eyes as well as i do, look it up yourself.
btw how else do you think he makes an LP sound like a strat? he does it cause he's actually trying to cop eric johnson's tone. i heard that from his own mouth in the interview.
sorry if it shatters your world, but its not that big of a deal. Joe is still the man and one of the worlds greatest. if this lessens your opinion of him i think you should really re-evaluate your priorities. :)

oh yeah i just remebered this. i saw him in riverside, ca at a tiny venue, it was city hall or something. it was about a year, year and a half ago. it was the first time black country communion played on stage together (btw jason bonham is so loud in person). i had told my buddy about his set up and he had a negative reaction too. at this show we sat 2nd row this time, my buddy went to the front of the stage. when we were getting beer he says to me that i was right about joe's set up, it was all racks, he could see it in the wings. if you dont believe me i'll tell my buddy he's liar. he doesnt kindly to that sorta thing and is going to the honduras very soon.lol jk.:) joe does in fact use a rack system. hey lotsa pros do. they got alot of presets for all their songs, it aint easy bro, sometimes you need some helpers.

Well now you are requiring to insults because you simply feel frustrated you can't come up with evidence....what a loser you are....

Stop replying, your either too new or a new identity for a known troll....:roll eyes:

If you can't back up your claims and if you simply are not qualified enough to provide it, ask your friend, he may very well be far more intelligent to do so....
