For a few weeks I've been working on moving my granny over near me......

As I previously posted she just turned 99 and can no longer live on her own.....

But I'll be damned, she made it on her own deep into her 98th year.....

And I do mean on her own.....my grandad passed away back in 1998 and she made on it her own for another 26-27 years......

So, Today starts the last step in this phase......

I'm heading over to her house later today to grab a few more things and staying there tonight.

Then tomorrow morning around 10/11am I'm picking her up from skilled nursing to bring her over to live by me at a medical heavy assisted living.

Gonna be an adventure and I hope she survives the drive......Its 4 1/2 hours across the desert, thru the Cascades (White Pass) and down thru the foothills......

She hasnt spent more than an hour in an automobile in 20 years......

She has alot of health issues in that 99 year old body, so there is a chance it'll be too much on her.

We had a heart to heart and she said, "It is what it is, lets get it done !! "

She also said if she expires on the way over, she couldn't think of a better place or person to be with.....and I know she really means that.

Hopefully we make it over without issue......

She has 1 surviving sister only 30 minutes from where she's moving, and is excited to see her (its been 20 years)

The facility she is moving into isnt terrible, not luxury either....

But !!.....it is only 8/10ths of a mile from my shop and 1/2 mile from my oldest sons shop.

Brenda has a new job in town now and will always be close as well.

We had Brenda's dad there during Covid and are very familiar with the ins and outs of how they operate...

Its a bit dated for sure, but the access is excellent and we will be able to see her daily and get things done easily.....

FWIW.....

***I know there are more serious issues going on around here, hardships and tough circumstances being dealt with.

My thoughts are with you @Pop1655 and I hope you and family are hanging in there ***

Ok....

So.....

Package delivered.....

Got granny here....

The landing ended up being a little rougher than expected.

Granny had a good trip over.....real good trip, sweet conversations.

But................

She got into one of her senior angitation moods when we arrived......
(Dementia type personality shift)

Fairly deflating.......but not unexpected....

Although, I genuinely thought she had turned a corner and was ready to settle into the situation.....

The ball is in her court now.

I did the hard part and still have to get her house emptied and sold.......
(250 miles away)

She's gonna have to make the best of it.....

Well done.

Thanks.......I wish I felt more closure and satisfaction than I do.

She wasn't thrilled once we arrived....

She has terrible OCD and moderate vascular dementia.......
She gets upset and discombobulated fairly easily......

I stayed with her for 3 hours after arrival and then cut the chord and went home.

I'm sure she had a long nervous night......

My plan now is to go in every morning and give her a hug and try to improve or do 1 little thing each day.

Brenda is doing the the same after work each day......

Today I'm taking her meds in and medicare cards , moving 1 of her call chord's and moving 2 of the pics I hung.

Brenda is taking her 2 new sleeved flannel nighties and setting up her make up.

We have to pace ourselves.....we have Brenda's mom living with us (Moderate Parkinsons)

And I run my dads finances (stroke survivor)

Getting spread very thin the last 5 years and its catching up to us.

I know I've been pretty open about how good I have it .......many would say over the years I've been " Over the top"

But ...Brenda is an amazing wife.

She's been at my side thru all of this and then some.....

The last 6 years would've probably killed me if not for her.......

And no matter how deep we are into the shit, she still has a very healthy spark for passion in our marriage.....

I gotta be a 1% 'er in the marriage lottery.....

FWIW

Granny had a much better day today.....

I was in and out with her most of the day..... did manage to do a little work at my shop. Still here now.

Brenda went and saw her before and after work.....my dam granny loves her more than she loves me ! !

One of the neighboring ladies said hi for a minute....

My phone camera has gone bad but I took a pic anyway......

Good on ya, Z.
I follow these threads with interest, as I'm probably gonna have Mom moving in with us within the next two yrs. She's 89 and in decline. Physically more than mentally, but....yea, both. Thankfully, her and my missus are tight. Sam can't wait. Just hope 'I'M' up for it.
