Well I sold my R7 today and the seller asked a simple question, "Does the certificate serial number match the one on the guitar." No problem I thought, Ill check. Well, the numbers are one digit off. The last number is a 4 on the certificate and a 6 on the guitar. Cost me the sale. I don't blame him one bit, but now I'm just frustrated.

I know the guitar is legit, but I don't know why the card would be wrong. I don't have the previous owners contact info since it was a Craigslist quickie sort of trade deal. I'm going to contact Gibson just to be 110% sure it's legit. I'm really bummed I'm going to miss out on a Two Rock right now, but it honestly won't hurt my feelings to keep the guitar.

Anybody got any ideas on what to do?

Track down the Guitar Center the Les Paul was originally bought.

GC and only GC and always GC does this.
Why they separate all the stuff, and then try to find it when a sale happens is beyond me. That is what you get when you hire kids to do a man's job.

The good news is GC is on the ropes as a business from what I hear. Big Box store with massive debt. The sad news is people wil lose jobs unfortunately.
The good news again is good MLP Vendors who will sell you great LPs despite this.

Call Gibson customer service. 800 4 GIBSON ext. 2708. Give them the serial number ON THE GUITAR. They will verbally verify what it should be. At least YOU will know its legit.

That blows. I've learned to check and certs that come with guitars when buying from GC because this happens fairly often. They'll just grab a similar case and send you out the door with it if you're not careful. Almost happened to me when I bought my Custom there last year.

It happens often, have the same in 2009 with an ES339 bought in a shop on friday, once at home, after jamming, I check everything on the guitar and the serial wasn't the same on the book and on the guitar, so I have change the guitar the next monday.

I really cant' understand in such a company selling "luxurious" products, that there is no quality control.

most of the G.C. sales guys at their last job were asking "do you want fries with that? "
