I picked up a cool 50s 2019 Goldtop. I was cleaning it up and took off the truss rod adjustment cover. Maybe I am not remembering things correctly but I always thought older Gibsons were a lot cleaner in there and more polished. Am I remembering the way things weren’t? Thank you all for your help.

I’m sorry when I meant older I wasn’t referring to the 2019.I was thinking about 70s n 80s models. Sorry for the bad wording on my part. Thank you for your reply.

Well, the good news is you can cover it.
Lol that’s true. It will be covered.

Brazilnut thank you That makes me feel better. I’m glad it doesn’t look as bad as I thought. I tried to clean it up some. Best I could do.

It's always seemed weird to me that Gibson and some other makers leave the adjustment nut pocket looking like it was carved by trained rodents, but they've always looked for ways to minimize the human work time invested in building their guitars, so this is "good enough" for them. I can't imagine even a home hobbyist settling for such a crappy job, particularly in an area the owner will almost certainly access many times (like their crappy control cavities), but so it goes. It least they've been consistent over the decades -- that is, almost always crappy. Oh well.
