Hello all,
There is a local seller selling a 2005 ebony Les Paul Custom. His rock bottom price is $2200. Looks to be in fairly good condition aside from some buckle rash. I am on the fence about whether I should buy it or not. What do you guys think?

It's fair IMO, but that's entirely up to you.

Not going to get any cheaper. Unless you want the bling you can get a mint standard for that price.

If it plays to your liking, yeah.

I think these primarily have mahogany tops, where most LP standards have maple caps on mahogany bodies. So they're a little warmer and they of course look super class. I love my LPC, at that price I'd say go for it.

LPC... best guitar I've owned, played, ever been around, far as I'm concerned.

They can have it, when they pry it from my dead cold fingers.

$2200? For Black Beauty? Yes, that is a very good price. Custom's typically run closer to $3000 and more.

SoCal? Where at? If you don't want it... I'll give it some serious consideration.

With some good research and patience, you can get a reissue with this price... As per my limited knowledge, reissues are slight above custom in specs... Again, "research and patience" is the key !!

I'd say that's a subjective opinion.

I had an opportunity to buy a VOS reissue, when I bought my Custom. Played them both. The Custom, was superior in almost every way, imo.

Better player, better tone, plugged and unplugged. Just a much more enjoyable guitar to play. Both were the same price, and even both the guitar players at GC thought the Custom was nicer, and after I bought it... the VOS sold next, because the Custom was gone. For 3 weeks after I bought it, I about got mugged every time I walked into GC, if I was interested in bringing it back.

No. Not interested.

The OP asked about the Custom, and if it's a good price. It's an awesome price, so what research and patience does he need to do, in a deal that's not going to last? Someone will buy that guitar, and soon.

P.S. There's a Custom listed closer to me, 1981. Guy wants $2500 for it. 35 year old guitar

P.S.S. Several Custom models are actually reissues, from what I've been told. Those are the ones, again... I was told to look for, in my search for my next one. Though, I really don't care. My current Custom, is supposedly a '68 RI, and its nothing like a '68 LP, except the wiring, I believe.

Are you asking me?

If it is local, check it out. One's rock bottom price has a tendency to move a bit when the buyer is in the room, ready to buy. Can you live with the buckle rash? I made the mistake of buying a dead mint model, and it is almost too pretty to play. But it is the best playing guitar I own.

If I could find a similar black custom for £1550 (which is approx what $2200 is, here in UK), I would definitely have it

If it plays ok that price is good IMHO.
The new ones are $5500 Canadian here at L and M so well worth it.

That is a fair price on a good condition Custom from that year. I paid about as much for my '98 and it was worth every penny. Best playing LP by far.

No, they have maple tops. 50s spec and maybe some special editions will be all mahogany.

Good price.

This isn't a reissue, it's a standard custom shop Custom, so maple top on this.

id offer $2k because of the buckle rash

His original asking price was $2300. I offered him 2000 and he countered with 2200 as his rock bottom price. I am trying to setup a time for Saturday to go check it out and if everything looks good I will bring her home.
