As a bisexual man, I personally don't take offense to words because they are just that, words, on the flip side, I have friends who go nuts when they hear derogatory terms for their particular group. Its all a question of how the individual reacts.

South Park's newest addressed this very word. And to whom they associate it with is dead on in my book.

One day in my web design class we were taking a walk outside and this gay guy in there was walking in front of us, but not really paying attention one of my friends ran off and then one of the other ones said "get back here you faggot!" (not reffering to the gay kid) then the gay dude started going off on us about how that is not ver nice to call somebody that. :laugh2:

Replace it with the N word and the gay guy with a black dude, same principle.

 I don't want to get the crap beat out of me :laugh2: however where I live people actually use the N word alot and most black guys just think that is kind of funny for some reason. I guess if they were using it as a true insult though, it would be different.

I don't know how long your service was, but I served for 24 years, and retired as an E-8 (SMSgt). I served in conflicts in Panama, Iraq, Somalia, and a few others you're not allowed to know about. I appreciate that you gave time for your country, but how about clamming up about that now that we all know it? It doesn't give you any special rights to spout off about any subject you like. Thanks.

The fact that in the OP you used an ampersand '@' instead of an 'a' should have answered your own question.

It's offensive language, and has no place in civil discourse. So--cut it out, and get used to it. Giving 'more than yourself' means nothing if at the end of the day you cannot accept others, even though they are different than you.

My dos centivos.

You misunderstand, I wouldnt use that, but the point is everyone is "special" and I didnt start this to grand stand or anything else, just curious to the current mindset of words that even as a kid growing up it was common place. I also have the belief of words as being nothing without intent or the perception of the person who is interrupting them. They only have power if one were to give them any.

For the record my step brother is gay, and I have had this very discussion with him. So in wrapping up, everyone in general are overly sensitive to words, and overly sensitive to how others believe or not. Its like a bully on a school yard, you either tell the teacher so and so is being mean to you calling you names, or you stand up. In the end of it all to give away your power to what anyone anywhere thinks or says, just seems childish..

I do agree its out of hand with kids on psn and even facebook and other places. Dont say anything you cant back up in person.

I just think as people, if you can avoid being a dick, you should. Its all just words but some of the greatest trauma is simply caused by words and context.

I agree with this with an exception. Children, adolescents, they are in the learning age of their life, and anything that comes from an authority figure is gospel.

Yep. It's still totally ok to call a straight, average white male anything you want. Honkey, redneck, or what-have-you.

I personally don't care what anyone calls me, but the double standard of it all seems odd. They even call it 'reverse racism' when it happens that way. :wtf:

And that is exactly why.
90% of us (IMO) could care less what racial slur other's would like
to refer to us as because we are comfortable with ourselves.
Dont assume, in my case anyway, I care what anyone thinks of me.
I dont, never have, never will.

As far as the word "fag" ya, I use to refer to cig's using that word,
but, unless (people my age & younger) grandparents explained to them what it meant, you just got dumb looks, made fun of, etc.

It's a "mean" word when used against homosexuals (IMO)
