Is there a difference between how/where you wire the caps?

Most Les Paul wiring diagrams have the cap wired between the lugs of the Vol & Tone pots. However, some wiring diagrams, including the Seymour Duncan one, has the cap wired from the lug of the Tone pots back onto the back of the Tone pots and then just has a regular wire between the lugs on the Vol & Tone pots. I was wondering if there is a difference?

Yes and no. If you wire it modern vs 50's style then yes. Using a wire from the tone pot with the cap lead to the can vs the cap lead to the same lug on the volume pot, no.

The position of the cap (or tone circuit) on the volume pot matters majorly. The lugs it is soldered to on the tone pot not at all, and the order of cap/pot is immaterial.
