I think I hate you.

:laugh2:
I started off with Gibson Learn and Master Fingerstyle if that helps you. I have since modified it to suit my playing style.
If it makes you feel any better the nail care regimen is a bitch.

I would prefer to use my fingertips, not the nails as I can just see myself shredding them!

I have that course on my computer and really need to spend some time with it. Actually, I think I need to spend some time with that and the regular Learn & Master program in an attempt to deal with the (many) deficiencies in my playing as well as to learn how to read music and some basic theory.

Maybe it is time to stop being a hack and actually learn how to play.

the pick is an extension of my index finger.

my index points directly at the string, my thumb is parallel to the strings.

Yep, thats how I do it. I tried the way where you lay the pick on the first knuckle and curl the index finger back. But it felt so awkward that I gave that up quick.
If I think about it, the way I hold the pick made it a pretty easy transition to fingerstyle. I never had to change my style. I just started using the fingernail as a pick.
