Is the klon circuit really all that magical? And why is the SD-1 overlooked?

I had a sugardrive and sold it. I like my boss sd1 better. I don't get klon/clone rage. It's just an overdrive pedal and I'm willing to bet id like my sd1 vs a real klon. This is a thread about the klon but also how underrated the sd1 is

You had a Klon?
That's really cool.
I don't have any pedals yet, but the first one I'm getting is the SD-1 for sure. It sounds so much better than the other tube screamers, and I really want to stack it with an OD-3

Is the SD-1 a TS clone?

.

A $28 Mosky Golden Horse works just fine ...
... And that $3,000 Klon is now running $5,000 (maybe more now that a few channels are promoting it).
Tear-downs of many import mini pedals show they are using the same circuit boards by NUX and branding the cases differently. Perhaps different sellers or a seller that has figured out there are ten thousand review channels on youtube who will buy a new pedal to show and tell in front of the class. So they can sell the same pedal a dozen times.

Upon what, exactly, are you basing your bet?

And for those interested in an in depth comparison which comes to the conclusion that : "J. Rockett’s Archer, with its germanium clipping diodes, is the Klon’s sonic twin. It’s easily the most rugged of the klones, with a reassuring heft that evokes the original. But quality isn’t cheap—at $199, the Archer is the most expensive option. If cost is no object, it’s my No. 1 pick. "
Here is the complete read with demos:

I think it's one of the best transparent overdrive out there. I don't think it's magical, and I think there are many other entries in that category that are fine. Especially in the market today. It's just a relatively low volume rare pedal. If Boss or MXR made the pedal, and kept it in production you wouldn't see the hype. I have a clone I made for like $40 somewhere. To my ears it sounds basically like every recording I've heard. I use my 808 more, and my TS9 when I want hi-gain.

My soul.

Seriously I think the klon is overrated. I can't say I'm an authority on it because I haven't tried the real Mccoy but I've heard a few klones and owned one. Its just an overdrive pedal. And I honestly prefer the sd1.

The only pedal I own that I paid over 150 dollars for is my Friedman dirty Shirley. Now THAT is a good pedal! Great for high gain British overdrive.

I'll never pay over 200 dollars for a pedal unless its something i fall in love with.
