I heard that same story, I.E. he gave it to Page. It was only recently that I heard that $$ had changed hands.

I have the manuscript of "You don't know what Love is" a flamenco piece written in 1935.
It has a passage with the first 5 chords of Stairway but in G minor rather than a minor.

Yes he's a thief.
But aren't we all?

The way we always heard it back in Ohio was that in return for the sunburst Walsh got some cash, plane tickets and recording studio time to make the James Gang's first album. I saw the gig where they met, at Musicarnival in Warrensville, the Gang opening for Zeppelin.

I don't care how he got it. He played some of the greatest songs of all time on it and i'm thankful for that. Jimmy Page the musician is my idol, I don't know Jimmy Page the person and I don't need to in order to appreciate his music.

What's the difference between an alcoholic and a junkie?

An alcoholic will steal your shit, get drunk, and come back crying about how sorry they are.

A junkie will steal your shit, and convince you that you sold it to them for $500!

Read a very funny interview with the CLEAN Joe Walsh, two or three years ago, and there he said, he still finds guitars in his houses, that he thought he didn't know or own them(anymore)!!!:laugh2:

In a recent issue of Guitar Player "Classic rock lead guitar, lessons, tips and techniqes" it stated that Joe Walsh GAVE the guitar to Page. He said that because Page didn't have that kind of money at that time ('69) he gave it to him. Either way, Page most likely bought it as Walsh was probably a little "hazy" in the late 60's.

Joe says he can't remember most of the Eagles tour gigs! That would be a shame to forget all of that.

Re: the Joe Walsh video
I believe that belt and all the huge buckles would have taken chunks out of the back of that fine guitar!

I think that if it was stolen, then more would have been made of it years ago. Page could certainly afford the equivalent of a $3k guitar back then. Besides, he was in the country on a work visa, so probably wouldn't want to be associated with any criminal activity that might screw up the potential to fill the coffers.

If anyone were to yahoo Joe's guitar it would be Cole....:naughty:

I have lived in Cleveland, OH my whole life and I never heard that.

What I do know, is that Zep played the Musicarnival on July 20, 1969 and yes, the James Gang was on the bill. This has been confirmed.

However, there are many confirmed pictures of Page with the #1 Les Paul well before that -- as early as May 1969. If the #1 was Joe's (like we have all been told it was), then obviously they would had to have met well before the Cleveland show for Page to be playing it 2.5 months prior.
