I love Kiss, which song is it? And we used to play Green Manalishi live, definitely more like Judas Priest than Fleetwood Mac's version.

Sometimes someone else does such a badass version of a song that just kills the original.

I have never heard Fleeetwoods version of that..
Just thought it was a kick ass Priest song...:dude:

Well were a punk band so when we do covers we try and spice them up a little except punk cover songs lol, usually we just cover them. Go figure.

eh, You should try it at least a couple times Im amazed at what gets the crowd going sometimes :)

Why not---go for it.

As for playing covers--I prefer to make covers my own, and not slavishly cover them.

I've had lots of fun over the years--both on my own, and in jams--messing around on arrangements for covers.

My take: If you're in a tribute band, you should play them as close to the original as possible.

If you're in a cover band, play them however you want - but keep your audience in mind. If you're playing in a pub, odds are people are going to want to sing along or at least hear songs that they know - that being said, most people will know popular cover versions as well - maybe even better than the original.

Most people are probably more familiar with Metallica's version of "Whiskey in the Jar" than they are with Thin Lizzy's version...and more people are familiar with Thin Lizzy's version than they are with the Dubliners' version, etc etc...

If you think about it - a lot of songs are already technically "covers" the first time they're recorded...because they were originally written by an independent songwriter, then adapted by the artist/band who records them...:hmm:
