Is a "frankenstrat" the best guitar for the $$$?

A really great vintage bargain these days is the '80s USA-Made Bolt-on BC Rich ST-III.

They're great guitars and I often see them pop up on eBay for under $500.

I remember reading something years ago in a magazine that some of the 80s Superstrats were bargains because they'd gone out of favour. Since then I've often thought I might find something really cheap one day. As it's from the 80s it might be lime green with 27 frets but I'd live with that if it played well and made some good sounds. Never really seemed to happen though. Either people are holding onto them or they are selling them and think they're worth thousands.

And the onboard electronics on those STIII's was way ahead of its time.
You see Jonesy building all these cool, BA Tele's with that kind of stuff on them now, are his Superteles or Jonesycastors?:)
