Got this manager in work, he manages shift (late night/early morning) staff mainly.. He's there from 4, and I usually give him a hand with the frozen delivery (supermarket) as he's on his own with it and there's a lot.. it's frozen, defrosts etc. and I regularly clear the bailer for him (cardboard presser thing, pain in the ass) I shouldn't but I do, no problems.. happy to help. Thing is, he does jack shit in return. Ask him for a spare roller, "get it yourself mate", ask HIM to clear the bailer or get someone from his department to, "ain't got time mate", ask him to pull some delivery out on the shop floor after shops shut, this is the best one, "why should I, not my job".

Been nagging me for ages but I let it slide, it's not that hard to get a roller and I'm getting good at clearing the bailer, but tonight, he took the biscuit and ran a marathon with it inside of 1 minute.

So we shut at 10pm, but staff need to get in.. so someone has the front door key, tonight was my go.. no problem, don't mind at all.. so 2 hours later, it's 23:58, 2 minutes until my shift ends.. I go to find him to hand them back so he can give them to someone from his staff (he isn't my manager). I find him finally at midnight, and he tells me to go to isle 5 and give them to one of his team leaders, well, she ain't having it, and tells me no like 3 times even after I said her manager said she's to have them. So I go back to him, tell him she's adamant that she isn't having them and ask him to give them to her himself because I have to go. He won't. He actually stares me down, telling me repeatedly to go back and give her the keys and I'm saying no each time.. I am well known to friends/family for getting severely pissed off pretty quickly if the right buttons are pressed.. he face rolled them all, so I gave him the option of taking them from his hands or picking them up from the floor.. he took too long to answer and picked them off of the floor while I was walking away.

I seriously don't know who I'm more pissed off with. The woman or the manager, what the **** am I? a messenger? he's her manager, go and ****ing give them to her yourself.. then again, If she doesn't want the keys ****ing go and tell him.. I am wondering whether or not to say to my manager about it, or the store manager (he's proper busy), or just keep hush and wait for the next time he tries to give me the keys or asks me for help, I hope he doesn't have a temper like mine if so :hmm:. If I spoke to a manager I'd probably get an apology, which would kill him and makes me lol thinking about it. :D

The best part though I have to say, is that the woman had to come and let me out with the keys 5 minutes later.

Clearly he doesn't know you are NOT actually his underling.

Amazing how some people do not understand the chain of command.

I had someone I worked with for years who I trained and mentored, who on her last day indicated that SHE DID NOT KNOW I actually was her line manager. All the time I had the authority to direct her work, she thought I was just giving her advice. No wonder she was so hard to work with!

It seems your voluntary assistance has given the guy the impression that it is because you are supposed to rather than you have been 'going the extra mile'.:hmm:

I have 5 at my place. And the get increasingly worse as the list continues. I'm also answerable to all of them.

Hate managers.

"If the earth could be made to rotate twice as fast, managers would get
twice as much done. If the Earth could be made to rotate twenty times as
fast, everyone else would get twice as much done since all the managers
would fly off".

You did what you had to do. I would say something to your manager about his unprofessionalism.

I have close to 40 employees and shit like that is not tolerated for a second. Disrespectful attitudes are shown the door.

You lasted longer than me, I would have dropped them at his feet after the 1st request.
Sounds like a bunch of BS. Lots of people like that, dont understand it myself. Maybe they just need the living sh#t kicked out of them.

I'd say this is a no Brainer, YOU MUST say something, because his version of what you said and done will be totally different to yours, guaranteed!

I'm letting it blow over at the moment, though it doesn't seem like he is, keeps calling my name when I walk past and stuff. If he does it tomorrow I'll either tell him to stop it unless he actually needs to speak to me or just call him out and see if he has the balls to say what he's thinking. (I know I shouldn't, but he seriously needs taking down a peg or 10, and I'm small and the kind of person you wouldn't expect it from, I love surprising people.), then either way I'll be having words with my team leader / manager.

Ohhh I'm glad I have close to 3 weeks off coming up. 24th jan - 10th of feb. Yahoo!.

Anyways, thanks for the replies and stuffs from people who manage managers. 'twas a good rant.

Just because they're in charge doesn't mean they aren't stupid, incompetent, or complete assholes.
