So I'm at a local pizzaria with my wife and younger boy in SMALL-TOWN IOWA, and in walks a guy who makes my jaw drop. To the floor!!!! I literally froze and whispered to my wife "hey,,,, i saw that guy when I waz 16. He's as big as it gets in punk rock. I've gotta shake his hand!"

I walked over with the biggest grin that I can't hide. He looks at me walking up...and then he just lets out this big "whats uuuuuup!!!!" He acted like we have known each other for years. I went to shake his hand and he gave me the old bro-hug. I said my thanks and humbly walked away. What a cooooool mutha!!

Thanks Iggy f'ing Pop! I love ya man!

Any of you guys have such a cool run in with your musical idols? Id love to hear about it.

Years ago I worked for a band that did weddings and corporate functions.
We usually played pretty nice venues, and we wore tuxes on stage.

I usually showed up looking like a bum before I changed clothes, and it was not uncommon for management or security to approach me and ask "If they could help me find anything?"

Once I told them I was with the band, everything was cool.
One of the last times it happened in a downtown Cincy hotel, and the security guy was like, "Oh"....."cool".

Then he tells me that the same thing happened to him last week, and he said the guy was famous but he'd never heard of him. Said he looked like a homeless bum.

"Have you ever heard of some guy named Iggy Pop?"

I hung out with and took a shot of Crown Royal with Dave Grohl before he hit the stage.

We hung for about an hour before the show and about an hour after the show.

What a cool dude...most normal guy.

I peed next to Kurt Cobain at City Gardens, I did not watch Nirvana , I drank in the bar instead- I thought dumb name, dumb band. Oh well. Heckled Greg Ginn at Kyber -made him sign my PAF. Gary Floyd hugged all over me-VERY flirty. Richard Lloyd recently signed my Strat back-plate. I bought Chris Whitley ENDLESS shots one night. El Duce drank with me pre-post show at City Gardens. Smoked a J with Rev Heat while he worried "straight" Mike Ness would catch us.............

Had a cheesesteak with THE Rodney King at Philly airport.....that was BIG. Great guy.

I once played video games with Ric Ocasek in his den in Brookline, MA.

He was super nice and smelled good too.

Still not as cool as meeting Iggy. Is he really 5 foot one?
5'1"? No way. He was more like 5'7" or so. I was suprised he wasn't shorter. He was still super-ripped though. I bet he has the wildest stories.

You're a Star, Man.
I bet a couple of those guys talk about when they met "The Fezz" and had a shot with him.

Two friends of mine spent ten minutes chatting to AC/DC's tour manager in a "café" near the Hammersmith Odeon (London theatre venue) in the late 70's.
He was sitting at a bar in the cafe, but appeared to be eating on his own.
He got up and walked out with Malcolm and "some other guys" who'd been sitting at a nearby table and they'd missed him.
Don't know who the "other guys" were but can only imagine my friends were just dumb enough not to recognise other band members.
I was still sick about it though!
Best I ever managed was to smack Angus' ass and shake Bon's hand, but never had a conversation with 'em.
Spoke briefly with Brian May back in the eighties (Kingston High Street, jewellery shopping just after he and Anita Dobson had got together) once.
Often chatted with bands we gigged with obviously, 'Manfred Mann' being probably the most famous.
But we weren't in the same circles as AC/DC or Queen.

Opened for SRV on my 25th birthday and Iggy the night before. Early 80s. Ran across Alice Cooper in a shop on my 60th birthday this Winter. They were all three pretty gracious....like politicians kind of?
