What’s particularly nice about your SG is how dark the grain filler looks. I don’t know if you got it in a good algae or the lighting is showing more nuances, but usually Gibson USA have much more subtle grain filler. Yours resembles something you’d find in the custom shop.
Thanks! Yeah, I like more unusual/interesting looking tops so I was keeping an eye out for something a little unique...that one popped up on Sweetwater and I grabbed it right away. The neck is on the chunkier side for a ‘61 and it’s a terrific player, very happy with it!

2020 Wildwood Select 50's Standard in Unburst (with replacement covers/plastic and aged hardware).

I'm buying one of these as soon as Wildwood gets more in. I just sold an Anderson Drop Top Classic so I've got money looking for a new home!

I wasn't crazy about the Unburst ones they had in and was just going to get a Goldtop, but then a new one showed up and it seemed nice even though I haven't always liked tight/prominent flame like this, so took a chance. Been great so far.

I have NEVER been a fan of light-burst guitars of any kind. I had a Dark Red Burst Anderson, Tri-color Strats, a few others and now the Bourbon Epi LP. I just sold an Anderson (in what I would now call Clown-Burst Cherry) to fund the purchase of a Wildwood LP and was, of course, eyeing their Dark Cherry. Then I saw this Unburst in a 50's and was like, POW, gotta have THAT! Of course, by the time I fully realized this, someone bought it (if you got this one in the last couple of weeks it was likely you, you, guitar-thieving, rotten bastidge!). I really want a 50's neck and wiring so I'm not interested the few 60's Unbursts that are still out there.

Yep...me. :io:Sorry! ;)

The other ones they had weren't as 'distinct' looking to me, and frankly I wish the burst pattern was more teardrop with darker upper bouts. But the flame pattern kind of makes it something else and I might eventually try double cream pickups which would look cool with this finish. So I figured I had a 48-hr return window, so it was worth a shot. Made the decision to buy within about 4 hours of first seeing it up. I'll tell you it was some pretty intense mental coin-flipping for those 4 hours!

This is the pic they had on their site:

It WAS you that stole my guitar! I swear, I will find you and make you pay for this infamy!

OK. The internet is fills with crazies so, just to be clear, what I wrote  was entirely in fun. That's a gorgeous guitar and I agree that it was the best of the ones (2 or 3 I think) they had in stock at the time. They've told me a couple of times now over the last couple of weeks that they have more 50's Selects in both dark cherry and unburst on order and are just waiting for Gibson to make/deliver them. What does yours weigh?

You're going to get one that's even nicer looking, and I'll be kicking myself for not waiting. I can feel it!

Weight they say is 9.07 lbs, but somehow feels a little heavier. Maybe they misprinted 9.7, or maybe I'm just getting wimpier with age and have gotten too used to the 8.3 lb HIstorics I had before..

Here is my 19 Standard 50s when I got it in January.

There is a pic of it hanging out with my 09 59 reissue in persimmon burst, and an 09 trad pro.

Finally,
The SG standard 61 from May. (Please don't make fun of the Line 6 :fingersx:, it's my least fav of my amps. Kind of a last resort kinda amp)..............
