Hey guys. I was very graciously asked my Mr. Friedman to come on his show, Tone-Talk later this month.

I'm extremely honored and beyond happy to do it! Some of the legends that have graced that show as guests (and hosts!) are my guitar and gear heroes. I'm just a nobody with the same passions as many of you and it's hard for me to imagine that I deserve to be among such highly esteemed guests on that show. I'm comfortable speaking, and I think I'm a good hang, but I also think I'm a bit out of my league, here.

I'm sure I could yap for a few hours on PAFs and pickups, talk about the Gibson / PAF book I wrote with Mario, how I came to be where and who I am, etc. I build / restore amps and guitars, as well, so I can hang with the techy amp talk that show often gets into. I think Marc, Dave, and I also have very similar tastes in music so I'm not short for general music and gear conversation, there. ...but I'm a little worried that "pickups" is a pretty dry topic, and that's what I've been asked to come on for. This show is frequented by rock stars and legends with epic stories!

A large part of the live show, however, seems to be answering questions from the live chat. I'm really good at answering questions on the spot, as I do that all day on the phone and email. I am hoping that, perhaps some of you guys who have time and interest and questions, might be able to hop on the live chat and ask some of your pickup questions? I'll promise to answer every single one asked, even if something gets skipped on the show and I have to go back later and individually answer more.

Whatcha think? I know this forum always has pickup questions. Can you guys hop on the Tone-Talk channel during that show and help me out? I'd be stoked to show my MLPeoples some extra love! Ask anything about pickups, guitar electronics, early Gibson and Fender history, early Marshalls (Dave will cover all I don't know there!) or anything about me or my business. Shoot, ask me about MLP, cake, four stacks of Plexi, AstroCat and Fezziwig! Whatever works. Just hoping to get a little participation so I don't come across as a massive flop of a guest.

The show is Friday, Marsh 31st, at 9 PM Eastern.

Congratulations! I don’t know if I have any questions, at least as of yet, or if they would necessarily contribute much, but I would really like to listen to the show, and will mark it on the calendar- hopefully time allows. Thanks very much for posting!

Congrats! You deserve it.

Can you talk about how you tune your artist specific sets, without giving up the secret sauce?

I don't really have any secret sauce. There's very little I'm unwilling to share.

Ask on the chat and I'll gladly get deep into any of it!

It sounds very cool, I don't think it's a dry topic at all.
You wouldn't have been invited in the first place otherwise!
I'm looking forward to it ;)

Congrats! IDK if I can make the show for a question, but I'll try..and try to come up with an interesting question.

I'm not sure if it's relevant to your subject entirely, but I see so many people chasing pickups and they seemingly never touch their pole pieces and haven't adjusted their pickup height. A few words on the sonic range that's available with a screwdriver or choosing a pickup that lets you move between two target tones for the output range you want with a little adjustment would be nice. It may be over the top as far as level of guitar nerdery though, you'd have to do a dry run before the real deal and watch it lol.

Congrats...I look forwarding seeing it!
Make sure you mark your calander for "March"....there is no "Marsh" on the 2023 version I have!
(someone had to be the spelling dick :) )

I do have a suggestion: The misconception of using ohm readings to determine output! If it was to come up!
Best of luck and have some fun!

You could speak to adjusting what you have before you start rolling pickups....

How height makes a difference and how poles along with height adjustments alter the tone....

Yep. Don't want to get dunked!
Gonna get dunked anyway....only question is to what extent.... ;)

Gotta print all mine out off the server at the shop, and of course find my official crying towel before our accountant jumps on my forms... Gotta prepare myself....

An accountant I used a couple decades back before he retired, I would go in his office to the bookcase and find the tax code book for that year. If it was right side up, I was good.....BUT, if it was upside down, I was gonna get screwed blue and tattooed....
