If you're gonna rip somebody off, there's something to be said for doing it right, eh? :dude:

Over the last several years, I have intended to get to the bottom of an issue for myself. :hmm:
Every time I have Led Zeppelin's Presence playing and I hear For Your Life?

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FEucAx3dGE[/ame]

I hear the bridge with its descending chord progression at about 2:30 and I think STP.
The part is repeated several times in the song, again 03:57.

Okay - not this STP:

But this STP:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwaiYWOin_M]Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song Official Music Video *HD* *720p* - YouTube[/ame]

The descending run begins at 00:53.
It is repeated at 01:47, twice at 02:23, and closes the song at 3:31.

This has bugged me for a few years now, and today I took the time to A/B them.

Not bad, eh?

Alright, I wouldn't say they ripped Led Zep off per se; I would call it a great use of musical resources. :D

people always write riffs that they are listening too...probably wasn't intentional

we have all had that moment where you come up with something cool only to realize you nicked it from a song later

i like hearing clear influences in songs, as long as no funny business is going on I'm okay with it :dude:

Rock Steady by Bad Company and Shout at the Devil by Motley Crue have a pretty similar riff that's suspect to me...

I've come up with one that sounds similar to Mistreated by Deep Purple but it's in a different key and I've taken it in a different direction so it's ok imo...

Ha!

Every time someone posts more than one YT clip of their favorite metal band, I usually open them both at once.

Try it sometime.

Gotta love the snorting sound at 5:30 and Plant's reference to snorting Meth right before it at 5:24? :laugh2::laugh2:

The riff is actually a Robert Johnson creation. You can hear it on Traveling Riverside Blues as well.
So, both bands were paying tribute to Johnson. :thumb::thumb:

Speaking of references to snorting, there's a glaring example at the beginning of Dream On.

"Everytime I look in the mirror,
All these lines on my face gettin' clearer...*snoort*
The past is gone...

Uh yea Steven, I bet! :laugh2:

"Interstate Love Song" is actually a fun/easy tune to play on guitar.:hmm:
I had forgotten how cool the Deleo brothers are.
Great thread for some guitar fun, Neo! :thumb:

Hey Neo, no need to concern yourself with what various artists ripped off from Jimmy, matter of fact, Jimmy made 'many-another's' songs into some of the best selling songs that Led Zeppelin produced!

Don't believe me? Does the riff in this song starting at :46 ring a bell? :laugh2:

Let's not forget everyone who borrowed the Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane" riff one way or the other, including Alice Cooper ("Be My Lover"), the Who ("Baba O'Riley"), and Bachman-Turner Overdrive ("You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet") . . .

Not to mention all those who re-did Bo Diddley's famous riff... too many to list, actually.

The worst thing was that in the end, Bo Diddley also ripped himself off for that riff!

One of these may have ripped off the other--they may have both ripped off somebody else--

You decide-
