This has become problematic post-Covid, unless you stay within the territorial waters of your own country. Paperwork and clearance has become much more excruciating...Liveaboards abroad are trapped or prevented from hailing a port.

Even at the best of times, you still need a home based to register the vessel, and all the 'virtual anchor and chain' that entails. The laws of your flag pertain on-board as well, in international waters, and the flags of the host country when in their waters. A little known fact. So, US laws apply when in the middle of say the Atlantic, if you are US flagged.

At sea, no poles required for decent fishing. You can drag a lure from a large hoop reel of line.

Compass is worthless without a sextant and good charts. GPS plotter the norm, but better have a backup.

Your vacation is more like a full-time job. Boat duties and maintenance and repair are a constant.

Most folks view of care-free sailing is like a privileged millennial's view of socialism. Idyllic without understanding the innate system at play, the nitty-gritty details and harsh realities.

Plus you have to get used to never having your stuff feel completely dry or completely clean...

We are nowhere near that point. I would be looking at Perth if we end up with new laws, and reduction of freedoms that I personally wouldn't be able to fight. If individuals try to step on my freedoms, we're going to have a nasty battle.

I am not a doomsday prepper or end of days sooth-sayer, but I may toy with playing on on the interwebz... I plan my life like the government plans its continuity of operations, within my budget. I've got a 50 year strategy; it will be adjusted according to a contextualized situational understanding and incorporate contingencies for all scenarios, each according to their gaussian probability, arrayed within a quantitive risk matrix.


2. Getting folks stoked and riled up for a wake-up can be constructive, assuming one has the personal sense to remain centered about it all. Superficial assessment of the situation unfolding before us has led to complacency... and as admitted, got America's ass down a hole of sorts. Need to pay attention. There are forces at work, their action can will have direct relevance to our everyday lives, and this can happen suddenly and with severe impact.

This is not conspiracy crazy-talk the forensics have been well vetted. And it's not enough to say move around to the back of the plane, and around the country, although that's part of the cure. The Appalachian Valley, Blue Ridge, Piedmont, and Southern Coastal areas all groan from what NOVA and other urban areas have wrought. I have experienced this firsthand, and now see things like a flip book where others are looking at scenes dissolve frame-to-frame.

So my mantra: keep perspective, but remain ever vigilant and appropriately engaged.

And that's a .... piece peace of my mind.

I worked on a farm in my younger days......

Had I ever been on welfare, having to work on a farm to get it would motivate the hell out of me to get a marketable skill.....
