I get the vibe that Dave is asexual, swinging neither which way. I think Michael Jackson was the same way. I've always had a theory that excessive fame can cause some people to completely detach from certain emotions and physiological desires...like the constant bombardment of attention and high expectations just fries their circuits.

I think people are always interested in this type of thing when it comes to famous people. I don't care one way or the other what someone else's sexual orientation is, and I bet (Or at least hope) most people don't either.

It's still one of those things the public discusses - For whatever reason, when a major celebrity "comes out of the closet" it still makes the news even if it was pretty obvious already.

In my humble thoughts, some could benefit from reading Masters and Johnson's work because it seems that sexual preference is a continuum instead of a black and white rule. Most people are not 100% one way or another and when a person realizes that they are just who they are, there can be a sense of relief. My guess is that David is at the least a bit toward the middle of the spectrum.

I'm not a big fan of Van Halen, so perhaps I missed something, but EVERY story I ever heard about DLR or his off stage antics involved him being a womanizer. I've never heard of him stepping out with a dude.

Sure his shtick is to act "outrageous", but while pretty silly, I never picked up a gay vibe from anything I saw.

It would surprise me if DLR turned out to be gay... Bi maybe, but I've heard too many first hand accounts from people that partied with VH back in the good 'ol days, and most of them have some tale of DLR banging female groupies... Often in front of a group.

I also have vintage magazine interviews where he is photographed holding giant balloons like they're his unit... So I kind of suspect that what's actually happened is that his old shtick just hasn't aged well. Now when he does something "outrageous" like he would have 30 years ago, it just looks like a creepy older guy trying to do the same stuff he used to be able to get away with... It just doesn't look good now.

Anyway, if he turns out to be a gay man, more power to him, I doubt it would lose him many fans at this point in the game. I can't say I've ever heard many people slamming Rob Halford for his sexual orientation.

He'd have to be a gay alien from an alternate universe that's traveled through time.

Yeah. I was surprised at the surprise elicited by Halford's coming-out, myself. It doesn't matter to me. I remember both David Bowie and Elton John coming out when I was around ten or eleven ... it didn't change the way I heard their music? What?! It was all the same ... okay.

As a senior in high school, I was 1/2 of an acoustic duo ... the singer was gay. When he launched into his "I've got something to tell you" speech, it was funny, because he was expecting, I don't know, disgust or something. I just laughed and said, "I know already."

It's only a big deal because people make it so.

I mean, if you think about it. A lot of 80's clothes, mannerisms, and behaviors, comes across as pretty gay in 2012.

Exactly. He built his entire image on being some super masculine, outrageous, "party god"... And that kind of image is pretty silly and over the top to begin with. Add the fashions and other stuff cultivated in the late 70's and early 80's, and well... It just doesn't age well.

What might have looked like "rock and roll" back then could come across differently now that he's much older, balding, and can't get away with trotting out his old image anymore.
