Hi everyone,

Could anyone please assist with decoding the following serial?
240072

It's a Les Paul Custom which is currently painted in Black, but the owner says it was originally in Cherry burst.

Thanks.

That serial number was issued prior to 1977 due to the fact that it has less than 8 digits. Look at the pot codes, which should be in the format 137YYWW. If pots are original, they will give you a better estimation of when the guitar was built.

137YYWW
137 = CTS (Chicago Telephone Supply)
YY = Year
WW = Week
