Generally, pics would be required, but AFAIK, the reissues all have a 5-digit serial, with the first digit being the indicator of the year being reissued. For example, a '59 reissue would be "9 xxxx", a 56 would be "6 xxxx" and so on.

Also, I believe the reissues have a stamp in the control cavity, R9 would indicate a '59 reissue.

Might be one of the pre CS "preHistorics" though, but I'm not sure. I don't know them well enough. I'm sure someone who know their stuff will offer advice.

Moff's 100% correct. Sometimes the simplest answers escape me.

But I still want pics!

Gibson didn't make prehistorics in 2005.

It's a faded.

Good catch. I just didn't want to go off saying it was a faded, without covering my a$$. Maybe I should get a job in politics? :)

Run the serial number past Gibson customer support. They might be of help. Without close-up pics, it's really hard to tell. And even though they're different from a specifications perspective (different pickups, different neck profies, etc), I'm not sure that any of us could tell a Classic from a Traditional from a Standard just by looking at pics...

How can you tell, Boles? So I know in future...

Mainly by the burst pattern, how it was stained... Also note the lack of shine/gloss on the headstock.. Zebras too. The lighting is too bad to tell which finish it has. It could be the faded version of Tobacco or Cherry.

They never came with amber knobs to my knowledge though, and the switch ring is obviously missing.

The lighting is bad and the pic is grainy, so I couldn't see if it was a gloss finish or "faded". Kudos to you for being able to tell. I figured the pickups would be a clue for somebody.
