People are quick to forgive because this is a pretty forgiving place, famous or not.

You and @THDNUT pretty much nailed it. :applause:

IMH experience it really goes to a person's character and measure of maturity as to whether or not they are willing to accept an apology at face value without digging for motives or trying to denigrate it.

Some will never be happy, it's just a fact of life.

Lt. Dave has compared this forum as being like a pub atmosphere.

We know each other and can shoot the breeze freely. Pub fights happen too. But usually our friendship is able to overcome the momentary hostilities and the next night we're all friends again.

Don't make me go all Shrek in here! :eek2:

Someone said that the ability to apologize for ones mistakes is the glue that holds civilization together.

It is also true that petty offenses serve only to divide and destroy friendships.

They usually serve no greater good except to the one who wants to feel offended, as the 'offenses' are self inclusive and only about THEIR feelings. Other's are not usually considered. But it gives them a moment in the sun that is all about THEM! :dude:

Just my 2 cents.... carry on!

Ah Joe, I don't want to see you go either.

Your contributions here, in the studio and on stage are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely.

Eh, I wish Joe would stay. Just be a regular schmo like the rest of us here.

I thought it was cool how people knew that it was Joe Bonamassa posting, but the bras and panties didn't fly.

It should be noted that there were no "buts" in the apology.
That's how you do it.
"I'm sorry I did it, but....."
An apology with "buts" is not an apology in my book.
It was done by the book.

Acceptance should follow the same rules.
agreed, a "but" negates everything previously said

I've never understood the whole "I'm leaving forum x" thing.

A forum like this has hundreds of active members, talking about something you're interested in. One thread goes sideways and you get into a spat with, say, two or three members. Things get heated, and maybe you post something after a few too many. You apologize, and the majority accept your apology good naturedly.

So you quit the whole forum? Are you suddenly not interested in the whole range of topics on the forum anymore?

If I quit every forum I posted something I regret on, I'd be stuck with only the salad in mason jars subforum of Pinterest to go to.

I've learned, in my later years, that we all make mistakes and act out sometimes. What separates the MEN from the boys is (1) apologizing for the mistake, (2) learning from the mistake, and (3) moving on with the new knowledge.

I didn't see the incident, nor do I care. What I do see is a MAN doing 1, 2, and 3 (as mentioned). THAT is what makes character and defines maturity.

Please stay. This forum is better off WITH you.

Joe wants to be one of the guys until you treat him like one, then he wants to be treated like Joe.

This is a very interesting statement because on it's face it looks 100% spot on. I used to share this view for a while until I realized that I had it backwards. It's not that Joe wants to pretend to be one of the ordinary guys only for as long as it serves his desire to appear humble, it's that those who interact with him in many cases won't treat him like they would treat an ordinary person. The interactions here usually fall within 2 cathegories, adulation or exaggerated hostility. The LPF had the same problem until Joe pointed it out by saying "If I am a distraction I'll go away", since then their interactions have been much more normal and he's mostly treated as just one of the guys over there.
Here we haven't done that, instead he's called out for "rockstar arrogance" or whatnot. How can you expect someone to act regularly if you don't treat him like a regular guy? Both forums had silly spats where members try to raise their profiles by "getting into it" with Joe, we need to get past that if we value high profile members' contributions.
One more thing about the adulation/ hostility thing, remember Ganzler? he went from VIP member based on a few "for sale ads" to "public enemy #1" in a millisecond. A great many people consider it their birthright to build up celebrity and tear it down for gratification alone.

As for quitting a forum, I'd say if you do it, do it for real, ask for your membership to be removed, or, if they won't, change your password to gibberish that you'll never remember and resist the temptation to retrieve it. And for goodness sake, spare everyone else the exit speech.

I read Mr. B’s posts towards Gregory differently. As a younger member here, although he may have apologized. His remarks towards a younger generation of guitarists, “milennials” was hurtful. That is the same attitude I get every time I walk into a vintage store that just because we are young we have not earned the right to appreciate a vintage guitar. You may have apologized, but I get the sense that you don’t truly mean it.

Show me a Man that has not overreacted? We, have all been that one guy at a restaurant, Auto repair center, Wal Mart, Football game, Facebook, Forum, even with our spouse, etc....that has acted an ass, and then realized I was an ass. It takes a grown man (not necessarily age, but mature) to admit he overreacted. It's something we learn from life experiences.

This is why I use a name to hide my identity. Don't need you guys being all, "you and your rockstar attitude!" when I'm really just a slightly below average guitar player who plays in his basement because he has no friends and no natural talent...

I can always respect someone who takes the first step in fixing things. I can also respect someone who just puts their hands in the air and says, " I made a mistake. " Hopefully everyone can put things behind them.
