Man do I suck, but it gets the point across to the actual drummer of how I want it to sound and works in the meantime. I would like to become more proficient. I guess I need to write another song and spank them some more.

I have fun playing with the tracks after they are put down. Learning some ins and outs of Reaper , mic placement, mic choices, and what not. I need a bigger interface, a cloudlifter and I’m seriously considering a SM7B for vocals and guitars. I’m pretty happy with my new 906e.

I have some studio monitors coming next week. Should help a little.

I remember doing drum tracks in a recording class.

We used 4 Mics.

2 LDCs for overheads. AKG C214s

Shure SM57 for snare

Shure Beta 52A for kick

All into an Apollo Quad. DAW was Pro Tools.

Pretty impressive for what it was.

Then we used different Preamps, bypassing the Apollo Preamps.

All I can say is MICS and PREAMPS and ROOM make a HUGE difference. Then all the other techniques, effects and tricks right behind those.

Sometimes we can get lucky using what we have available. But not mostly. Nothing beats a huge amount of trial and error with the gamut of Mics and all the rest of the daisy chain. Enough to know exactly what will nail what you want in any certain arrangement.

Way better than TV, so get to it! LOL

When I started jamming with my drummer buddy we "tried" to record our jams.
We were in a garage like room.

That room became needed and we moved to the loft of the barn-like house.
But instead of real drums, he set up his digital drums.
Still sounded great.

But it sure made recordeing the jams easy.
Just record off the mix board.

Never know how bad your timing is until you hear the playback
You can't polish a turd

Can you use a click beat into your monitoring headphones when you record the components of the Rhythm tracks?
