I thought throwing rocks at performers was bad enough...

depends on how you hit and what you hit
i saw a young healthy guy slip on an ice
coverd sidewalk, hit the back of his head and
died instantly

I know what you mean, but that's more of a freak accident. I've never heard of a suicide jumper at 20 feet.

In emergency medicine falls greater than 6 ft are sometimes considered critical falls, and it's not the fall that hurts it's the instantaneous deceleration that's a real bitch.

I rolled out of bed once, fell a good two feet, maybe three. Just that much of a fall hurt like hell.

F=ma
Force = mass x acceleration (or deceleration)

The more sudden the deceleration is, the more force you feel. Physics can hurt.

I wholly agree short falls are dangerous and can be fatal. However, I've seen a few jumpers in my time, and all of them were a damn sight higher than 20 feet. This case reeks of a drunken stunt gone wrong to me.

A true front man would refuse to be upstaged, cock one foot on the body like a it was a stage monitor and keep going.

it isn't the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the end
