I thought Gibson wasn't mounting the pickguards on standards?

My new 2013 LP Standard in desert burst was delivered yesterday. It came with a very nice top and looks great, but I was expecting the pickguard to be un-mounted. It blocks the nice wood pattern in my opinion, so I will probably take it off and try to fill the holes with something. But I have read a few threads here on the forums that indicate the standards are not shipped with the pickguard mounted. It is also missing the "Pleck'd" sticker, so now I am wondering if they sent me a return or used guitar instead of new.

Anyone else get their standard burst with the pickguard mounted and missing the sticker?

Right now my plan is to keep it because I like it and it plays well.

I don't actually own any Standards but I was under the impression that it was only the premium/plus tops that were shipped with the pg seperate.

Ahh, I could have completely misunderstood this. I definitely did not order a plus or premium.

If I was CEO of Gibson, every standard les paul would come with a pick guard, not a gawddamn mini tune. Posted from Mylespaul.com App for Android

So... I just bought my 2013 Standard Plus (my avatar pic) a few weeks ago, but it didn't come with a separate pick guard. Should it have? (not that I would actually put it on, but would be nice to have if I decided to use it as a mod for another LP in my arsenal)

Those dreaded pickguard holes have become an issue.

I can't believe that they didn't plek your pickups. Seriously, those stickers seem to be fairly random.

Just take it off and don't bother filling the holes. I think it's kinda cool that way, personally, but you may change your mind at some point, and beyond that anyone who would look at an awesome LP and be drawn to and turned off by the pickgaurd holes is a huge dork.

Just put the screws back in the holes

I read somewhere (maybe on this forum) about using wax from a crayon to fill in the hole, then polishing over it with guitar polish. That way, of you ever wanted to reinstall the pickguard, you can remove the wax from the holes. I would never permanently alter the guitar as the holes don't bother me enough to warrant that.

My 2012 Plus came with an uninstalled pick guard, my 2013 Koa did not come with one. I like them naked anyway !

Don't like the pickguards myself. But I don't think I am going to fill the holes whatsoever, I don't care much, I don't think about them at all, and don't think anyone sees them :) Only you guys see these details :)
