last night i was practicing and messing with my chain, when i realized some of the stuff doesnt sound right. either that or im not using it correctly. one pedal in particular is the super octave. it gets this weird hum/growl if you hit a note while the other is ringing. its made muddier and much worse with distortion on. heres how my chain goes

tu2 tuner->dunlop high gain volume pedal->keeley ds-1->keeley vox->rotary simulator->mt2 metal zone->satchurator->super octave->super chorus->flanger->pulsar tremolo->dd20 digital delay. im using a orange crush 30r watt solid state amp. all powered by two one spots. im just thinking maybe i should rearrange them, but it would take forever so i wanted some of your opinions. i also have a ps5 super shifter in the mail so thats coming in soon. oonce i have the setup i like i wanted to velcro them properly on the board and clean up the wiring with some black zip ties.

i like to keep the volume and wah pedals off the board. its easier to use them that way

I had that super octave pedal. I thought it was kinda bad... Is it the OC3? I had that one. And couldn't get a good tone out of it unless it was from the driven octave setting. All the other settings, it'd sound awful. I ended up selling it and putting the money towards an me70... That has the octave built in and as simple as it is, I think it sounds MUCH better than the standalone pedal.

Regardless though, my chain is set up with this method:

Wah> overdrives> modulations> compressor > eq > volume > reverb/delay...

I think this sounds decent for my set up...

HTH... :)

where would you recomend sticking the pitch shifter/octave pedals? after the wah or after the modulations, or do i have it completely off?

yeah its the oc3, im not digging it too much, it just doesnt seem to work properly for me, at least i cant get it to

I'd put those two with your mod pedals. At the end. So have it like

Chorus>flanger>tremolo>pitch shifter> octave...
I'd also put that rotary simulator in with your modulations as well. After the octave pedal. Then your digi-delay...

i'd stick a pitch shifter at the start of my chain so the bottom notes get distorted along with the normal notes.

OC pedals have a "problem", because it depands on what kind of signal is coming in. If the signal is too fat with lots of low ends, and you set the OC to go "downward", then the sound comes out very muddy and hummy.

Like most here, I'd put it near the beginning. Also, with those boss octave pedals, then tend to track the notes better on higher notes up the neck. To tell you the truth, if you want perfect tracking, just get a mini POG from EHX. Not to say the OC3 and OC2 are bad. I make some whacky noise with that bad tracking sometimes.

I'd put your wah and rotary pedal between your volume and distortion pedals.

Tuner -> Volume -> Wah -> Rotary -> Compressor -> OD/Distortion -> EQ -> Modulation -> Noise Supressor -> Delay -> Amp

im always open to suggestions for better pedals. i usually stick with boss just because its familiar. im very open to other brands. take my ds-1 for example. i used them only because it was a boss distortion and i knew boss was a decent company. i got a vox satchurator and it completely blows away my ds-1. full, powerfully punchy well rounded distortion. yeow!

plus i have a ehx pulsar and i really like the tone off of it.

The guy who does those vids is a top dog engineer. He has worked with big names and has been in the trade for a while. I just can not remember his name of the top of my head. His vids for EH are really cool. Peace

(in my limited knowledge all pitch effects have some troubles....I do have the HOG and tracking is good but still I find myself wishing it would sound a bit better).
