Im excited to level up at my new job. They approached me about going from a Companion Aide to a Personal Care Assistant.
There will be a little more responsibility but nothing I cant handle. There is also a pay raise. I have a raise coming up after my first 90 days, and then the raise I will get once im PCA certified.
Until May gets here (when I get my full drivers licenses back. I have it amended to where I can drive to and from the hospital and a nursing home owned by the hospital. not to clients home though because that would be too many addresses) so until then I am just doing hospital sitting, you basically sit with the patient to make sure they dont do anything to harm themselves (trying to go to the bathroom alone having just had a stroke, or in more extreme cases making sure psych patients dont try to harm themselves )
In home care is more involved. You help around the house, take them to and from the store, drs appointments, to the drug store ect.
Being a PCA means helping them in and out of the shower, more hands on ect... from what I understand the clients I will be assigned to can basically do for them selves to a certain extent (so no ass wiping) ... its just they are on up there in age and need a lot of assistance, hence the title Personal Care Assistant.
I stopped by the home office today for coffee and doughnuts (something they do each friday) I got to chat with the head of H.R. he said when they were thinking of who to level up to PCA my name came up immediately. That was very flattering.
Im excited to begin this new part of my career.
