Huh.

A 2014 Melody Maker. Why didn't I think of that?

I don't blame you. I have two P90s LPs and an SG with P90s. They are different beast, like a wild horse that doesn't quite yet tolerate being ridden, bareback at best....

i plan to have mine refin'd along the way, hopefully to a natural.
will have to take a look at the wood before that decision can be
made, though.

I wonder if the Tribute has/had circuit board mounted pots and plug in type leads? I have heard some people complain about noise with certain pickups with the circuit board.

*******

I had a 2010 50's Tribute and it was a great guitar (standard CTS pots and Orange Drop caps, stock). It was 7lbs 7oz and I am sure it was chambered. With light fuzz through an old Marshall it would do a Led Zeppelin/Jimmy Page thing like no other guitar I ever played. Did a killer Free/Kossoff tone with the fuzz off.

It would also clean up and do nice Jazzy or Rock-a-billy or 60's Pop tones with ease.

I had, and still own, an SG Classic at the same time. The SG is darker and more focused sounding.

I'd recommend a 2010 50's Tribute. Tough to beat. I miss mine.

Have to agree, my 2010 50s Tribute is excellent.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards another Tribute. Just a different year.

There's several on Reverb. Wish one would come though my local store, however.

That is so cool, I remember that they were reasonably priced too.
Edit: Just checked Reverb, it's twin is listed for $700 with a hard case. Or best offer..not bad. My inn is full though.

I also have a 2010 tribute- and agree the pickups are super sensitive to placement in relation to the strings- which I blame on the chambered body. Now well set up, its a killer for blues and jazz-ok with gain. Overall assesment though is it is the cheapest feeling les paul I have ever played.

That was one of the problems I had with the 2016 Tribute. I remember when I put my Schaller on, I was thinking how soft the wood felt, in comparison to my other LPs. When I swapped out some of the plastics, I stripped one of the screws. And I don't torque down anything, except strap locks. Plastic gets tightened to the point its held in place. That's it. And I felt that screw strip. Was on the control plate.

My Studio Faded, which was actually priced cheaper... doesn't feel like that.

There's a couple 2011 I could snag for around $700... and GC has a few listed, I could probably get marked down some... and have the return policy.

There's even one, with a Bigsby!

I find the right one... might pull the trigger this weekend.

Just pulled the trigger on this one. With case, sub $700... I'll take that, thank you.

Of course, now I have to wait rest of the weekend, for it to ship. :run:

Very nice! :applause:

Seems to tick all of your boxes (2010?). And a good looker, too.

Very nice 2011 Tribute :) I have the exact same at home and of all my p-90 guitars it gets the most play time.
Happy NGD!!

*WARNING: PIC HEAVY*

UPS took their sweet time. Didn't get the guitar until almost 6.

The guy did a good job of packing, loosened the strings, things were well supported. Was nice getting a case, with a cheaper Gibson. Not the best Gibson case I have, but still a Gibson case.

The guitar is amazing. The guy said I was gong to be really pleased. Easy to say, when you're trying to sell a guitar, and before shipping.

There was some confusion, as I wasn't sure when Gibson started using the baked maple fretboards. That was the year they got raided, twice I believe. However, mine was made January 3rd, so it's rosewood. Other thing I was under the impression, these were PCB boards. I was wrong. Good news on both counts, though I was curious about the maple board, and would give it a go, on a $675 guitar.

Speaking of $675... I stole this, for that price. Other thing the guy said, was it was mint condition. He wasn't kidding. The only thing I've found with it, is the PG wasn't adjusted properly, and has warped a bit, over time. I adjusted it. It's better. If it bothers me, I'll warp it back, or replace it.

After our discussion about what I was looking for, I'm happy to say, I found it. Remembering the commentary on pickup placement, I backed them off just a bit, to see if I could still get that bite, minus some noise. Worked beautifully! The is also definitely a difference between the turn of the decade Tribute, and the current one. If that's the PCB, it'd be my obvious culprit. I think I'll still do some upgrades to this.

Love the light back, and faux binding with these. I was kind of hoping for another gold top, maybe the white model... but seeing this plain top in the case, I knew I made a great choice
