He says $1800
Oh. Wow. That's one of the worst fakes I've seen in a while, surprised he didn't catch it. A shame.
He says $1800
Ouch! Sorry for him. Any chance of him getting his money back??He says $1800
Well.... I think a fake strat that has all its working parts.... truss rod.... tremolo.... volume and tone controls and functional pups.... is probably as good as the real deal. As cheap strats are quite functional... like Squiers. Though being honest has its merits too.I think I'm going to find myself in a slight moral quandry about this topic.
A young man was at my house today doing a carpet install with his dad. You can tell these guys aren't rich. Just good workers that carpet place hires for jobs. Independent hard workers.
Young guy sees my guitars, asked questions about them. Said he always wanted a REAL Fender Strat. One day he found one for a good price in a pawn shop.
He showed me pics... It looked good in pics, but I have no eye for Strat fakery the way I do Gibson.
He's going to text me more shots of it later. Not to find out if it's fake, just because we were talking and he likes his guitar.
Say I get these pics, and I find out it's a fake. My options:
A) Tell him it's fake
B) Tell him I think it's real
C) Don't discuss at all the counterfeit aspect.
I am 99.99999% sure I'll choose option C in any conversation, unless he specifically asks for assistance in finding out whether it is fake.
Option A might cause him to like his guitar less and be disappointed. No benefit to him or me, wouldn't do it.
Option B would be a lie, no reason to do that to him.
Sure, I'd know there is a fake out there, with an unknowing owner who might pass that on, but what's that to me? I'm not the "counterfeit enforcer".

Preferably not buy it at all and save up for the real thing that he actually cravesYes, tell him it is a fake but also let him know it could
be a good player.
Make sure he knows what he should offer for the fake.
Yeah, I was recently in a Pawn Shop where they were selling a fake LP Custom for $500 (so they clearly knew it was a fake based just by the price). The shape was very wrong though. This one did not even pass the 10-foot-away test. The only quality thing about it was the price.... I've played a fair number over the years and there isn't a single one that would fool me , or most people here as soon as you picked it up.
