i go through a ton of gear and enjoy it. lately i've felt like everything was just blah though :laugh2: i've got what i consider pretty good gear and a few pedals, even just spent another $400 on pedals :laugh2:.

the greatest effect on my sound came from new strings:laugh2: i used to change strings on all my guitars once or twice a month but it got pretty expensive considering most were barely used before getting new strings since i usually get hung up on a guitar for a month or so then switch to another of my favorites for a month or so. with the usual 5-8 guitars that i have at any time that seemed kind of expensive so i quit changing them except when i thought one needed new strings,

they apparently degraded slowly enough that i didnt notice or realize they were killing my sound. threw a new set on the other night and fell in love all over again. best $4 i've spent on gear in the past year :laugh2:

have you tried coated strings like DR's? They last a lot longer because they don't really oxidize like regular strings.

Buy in bulk and buy when they are on sale a lot of times you can get those Ernie Balls or D'addario's for $2.50 or even less a pack. All of a sudden its only $20 a month for fresh strings.

I find that I split the playing up enough on my guitars that I can get a month to two months on everything pretty comfortably. Probably much longer if I took the time to wipe them off when I was done. My skin must not be anywhere near as acidic as some of you peeps out there.

haha i've got a cousin that can play a new guitar with nickel hardware for a month and have it looking 20 years old:laugh2: he says he replaces strings after about 8 hrs of playing. any time he uses any of my gear i clean the hell out of it after he leaves. awesome player though, he can do anything from finger picking country on acoustic to zak wylde and dimebag with electrics.

i'd love to find some of those $2.50 bulk deals on the ernies and d'addario's. i like both. the ernies sound better to me but the d'addario's seem to last a little longer

[ame]http://www.amazon.com/DAddario-EXL110-3D-Electric-Strings-Regular/dp/B000EEJ91I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419143571&sr=8-1&keywords=d%27addario+strings[/ame]

This tip came from PixxxyLixxx (or however he spells his name). If your an amazon prime member you can get a 3 pack of D'addarios for $8.83 if you subscribe for them. Meaning they send you X amount of 3 packs every month, two, three whatever. If your not a prime member you will need to get that purchase to over $25 to get free shipping.

That is not quite $2.50 but if you watch the big boys websites they seem to go on sale regularly. A couple weeks ago Guitar Center was selling 10 packs of D'addarios for $25, Sweet Water 12 packs of Dunlops for $20. Hell, D'addario may even make the Dunlop strings for all I know.
