I need some help with my Slash Les Paul

Hi I'm new to the site, sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Last year my brother and I both bought a Slash Les Paul Standard and today he wanted me to take a look at his and set it up for him.

Upon doing so I noticed that he has a different case than I do. We both bought from the same dealer in a different city and I was hoping to get some clarification on here.

Mines appears to have a more plastic look and the red inside mines is lighter. The locks are also different abd the logo on the case is slightly differently positioned

I am no authority on cases, but I do recall a thread on cases made in different countries. Canada, China, and there was a third country. Could simply be cases from different sources.

puerto rican gibson cases.

stores separate the guitars from the cases for display obviously

GC does this then adds a price and SKU to the case. Some end up in the right case some dont.

The case for a particular guitar can often go missing or end up with someone elses COA

If I could make a buck on a case it was sold with a guitar or not.

Its all my fault

The newest cases that I have are from Canada (TKL) and Costa Rica. I purchased one Gibson that had a case made in China, but I no longer have that Guitar.

Agreed to what was previously posted. Cases are made in China, Canada, and Costa Rica. I believe the preferred ones are the Costa Rican ones, but I am not sure. There are threads that have analyzed the different variations to the n-th detail if you want more info.

Any chance you could post a pic of the two Slashes? We would love to see them.

They all come with different cases. The worst have a cheap looking and feeling handle like a dog's chew toy.

The case with square latches are the Costa Rican case and was the one I had to return because of how loosely it fit the guitar on my 60’s Standard. The oval latches are much preferred by me and I’m not a fan of the CS made cases

Wow, I really dig my square latch case, guitar fits tight! Very heavy though.

Maybe I just got a bad one then because I posted a video showing how badly it fit my guitar and SW replaced it as a result

Yeah, I saw another post stating the same, I don’t think it was you! Nonetheless, mine fits pretty snug, very well made case. Maybe they had a batch with loose specs!

I’ve had all three of the cases- Canadian, Costa Rican, and China. I currently have the latter two. The Costa Rican case has the square latches, which the Chinese and Canadian cases have the curved latches. The obvious difference in those is that the Chinese cases have this hokey looking double binding that the other two cases don’t.

The Costa Rican ones without a doubt are the sturdiest, but they’re also the heaviest. I have a food scale that I can weigh my guitars with, so I just checked the Costs Rican and Chinese ones. The Chinese case weighs just over 8 lbs 12 oz. I couldn’t weigh the Costa Rican case because the scale only goes up to 11.5 lbs and then errors out.

The Chinese case, on the other hand, has a bit more padding inside the bottom and the lid of the case to make up for the slightly flimsier feeling top. They’re all good cases, though. Better than the Lifton cases coming out of the Custom Shop, for sure.
