Hmmm depends 50% on your diet and 50% on your exercise.

Don't eat sweets. That count soda pop especially. If you drink milk switch to skim. Eat a more natural foods. Try replacing breakfast with special k. I switched from kids cereal and whole milk to skim and SK and lost 7 pounds the first week.

I read somewhere that the heavier you are, the faster the weight comes off. is that true?

No refined sugars. Only natural sugars, like what comes in fruit and vegetables. NO sodas. Don't drink your calories... drink lots of water or tea (unsweet).

Watch the carbs, don't cut them out, just make sure you don't go over your daily limit.

Go easy on the red meat.

Green vegetables, you can eat an almost unlimited number of them and they won't make you gain weight.

No alcohol.

Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Portion control, portion should equal the size of your fist or less (green vegetables are the exception).

Stay way from McDonald's and other fast foods.

To a point. If you drink sodas and eat a lot of sweets and eat alot of salt and if you cut that out and start drinking nothing but water and tea, then you will melt pounds off for the first couple of weeks. It'll come off QUICK!

Its basically water weight that was being soaked up by the sugars and salts in your diet.

Generally, yes!

I need to lose a ton of weight too. My wife and I went on the Atkins diet a few months back and lost weight FAST. I lost about 15 lbs in the first week and a half, but then I stopped losing weight. And after awhile you get so sick of the Atkins food... just a ton of meat and fat. You really start to miss bread and pasta. So now I've gained all the weight back. :laugh2:

There's not much of a secret to it really though... eat low fat + low calorie foods and get exercise. I'm just too lazy for that though...

One thing that might help out, that we're about to try is a meal planning service. Basically you sign up and pay a monthly fee and once a week you recieve a menu with different dinners for each night, and even a shopping list you can print out. Keeps things interesting as well as organized... and all the meals are fairly healthy. As it is right now, we've got 2 young kids and I'm always so overwhelmed by everything that dinner time comes and I draw a blank as to what I'm going to do... so we end up eating a lot of crap.

Here's the plan we're going to be trying: Healthy Meals, 30 Minute Meals, Quick Easy Dinner Recipes, Family Meal Planning

As far as the bigger you are the faster you lose, you ever see like the people on the biggest loser lose like 20 lbs in a week? Most of the time that's not healthy, but what they're losing is water weight. In about a month or so you'll level out and you'll be looking for about 2-3 lbs a week.

And if you exercise (aerobic and resistance train) you may not see any weight loss, in fact you may gain.

Weight is less important than inches, IMO. Muscle weighs more than fat.

Just exercise and eat right and try and fit into some smaller jeans. :thumb:

217 lbs, according to the BMI.

Which I think is a load of crap. Basically you just want the smallest amount of body fat possible. And the easiest way to know that is to measure your neck circum. vs. your waist circum., do some fancy math and you'll know.

Should be a body fat calculator online. Healthy would be around 25 percent or less body fat... according to the United States Army. :laugh2:

One good thing about getting fat though is I can finally find jeans in the store in my size! How much of a selection is there for 30/34s?? Not much!

As weird as it sounds, join Weight Watchers. It really works, my mom lost over 100 lbs, my wife and I lost over 40 when we were on it, then she got pregnant and we got off it... we're going back on after Christmas.

the heavier you are the more extra weight you have, so youre partly right. if you're already fit, it's harder to lose body fat. it's not how heavy you are, just your percent body fat. you can be 7 foot tall, 275 lbs built like a rock, and it wont be easy to lose weight because your % is low. you know what i mean?
