Most importantly, finish info. I'm trying to repair a gouge and it's not working so well, the finish isn't sticking. This leads me to believe the existing finish probably some kind of lacquer, but I am unsure. Any info, other than dumb stuff like color, that you could tell me about a Tony Iommi G400 serial #UC07110709 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That's what I had thought, but my Minwax poly doesn't want to stick, even to scuffed-up areas. Thanks.

Polyurethane and Polyester are NOT compatible finishes.

And the Polyurethane that guitar factories use in not the same as the hardware store stuff.

Polyester is more like epoxy. Try nail polish, that stuff will stick to greased Teflon.
