As Phil would say: different tools for different tasks. Meanwhile, I would say that OP should play different guitars and choose the ones he bonds with-- and never mind what the next guy is using.

I have a Gibby Lester, an MIA Strat, a Gibby ES-335, and a Gibby ES-339. Each has its own strengths and so forth. I play all of them regularly.

As for amps: I tend to also believe that Marshall is a bit overpriced in most cases, and so I use a Blackstar amp to create Marshall-esque tones. My other amps are all Fender and Vox.

ETA: No need to let go of your current guitar. There's a reason you don't want to give it up. I say hang onto it, and meanwhile find a way to get another one if you think you would like another one to go with it.

strats are more comfy, and do better with drop tunings.
It's all what you're used to. I don't find them particularly comfortable at all, especially standing up. Everything's in the wrong place, and even Strat lovers know I'm right. Can't miss the middle pickup, can't hit the knobs.

Rube Goldberg design, they are.

Disagreed. The biggest complaint about the knobs is that the volume knob is too close, not too far away. I don't understand this complaint; I love having the volume know right there where on-the-fly adjustments are much easier than on the standard Gibby layout. I don't knock it around, because I don't pick there, I pick on the strings and minimize my hand-motion.

I don't have any problem with the middle pickup, myself. I've never understood that complaint either, both about Strats as well as 3 p'up LPCs.

My only complaint is that once in a while I have managed to displace the pup selector switch, but even that is not a really big deal once one gets used to the idea of having to avoid doing so. And it's not a problem at all, when one is playing off the bridge pup... just can be a nuisance when you're playing the neck pup.

I never played a three pickup Gibson, so I don't know about the thing with the plectrum versus the middle pickup... but I've heard that complaint from a lot of advanced players (including Riv and Joey Dego, among others) so many times that I figure there must be something to it.

My solution is to stick to two-pup Gibsons, and to just kind of be a bit more conservative with my pick hand while playing a Stratocaster!

my strat is baaaaad ass.

two humbuckers and a 5 way megaswitch. two volumes and one tone. 2nd vol is where 1st tone would normally go, master tone is where 2nd tone would go.

Its hard to go wrong with a good Strat (which the Highway 1 is) if you go with the Strat, dont forget the fuzz pedal too ;)

Mudfinger agrees with me, and he's a Strat-a-holic. So the two of you cancel each other out. :slash:

Even on the Mini, the middle pickup is in my way, big time. The other complaints are tongue-in-cheek, but still quite relevant to someone used to something else. The bridge needs to be covered with masking tape, the whammy bar is a waste in all respects, and the head stock is fugly-too-big.

Leo should have put a "belly carve" (I hate that term) into a thinner Tele and called it a day.

Yeah, I understand that not everyone shares my views, but then again, they're opinions. Saying Strat lovers share those objections just ain't so. Some do, some don't, and that renders it all rather academic.

You don't like 'em? Don't play 'em. I'm glad ole Leo kept on, because the 2 & 4 pickup positions justify everything, to my ears.

I was wrong once; May 18, 1962.

Today is not May 18, 1962.

What's one plus one? It equals two.

I never had an issue with the middle pickups on Strats (LPs and SGs too for that matter) :dunno: Ive been playing those longer than any other type of electric guitar

I loved my strat in 88, loved my tele in 92, loved my LP in 2002, and now I'm lovin my sheri 2 ... It seems I was made to play the hollow body...takes time and patience to find what guitars work best for oneself, same with amps IMHO.

I own an SG then in got an HSS strat. The middle pickup wasn't ever a problem for me but when I first started playing it I would always hit the volume knob, I don't anymore. When I play an LP standing up I seem to hit the toggle switch a lot. A Gibson SG is the best fit for me.

Enjoy your Tele. I'll convert you to Stratolicism one day!

For those caught in the "twilight zone" of loving Strat's and Tele's...there's the Pawnshop '51's or the Squier '51's. These are guitars that I feel give you the best of both worlds. I don't like the ashtray bridges of the Teles and I don't care for the congested knob/control switch/whammy bar area of the Strats. If you've never tried one of the '51's...it's well worth it.
I really do love my Mexican Fender "Squier Series" Strat. What I love about it most after putting some good tuners on it is that it's better than a MIM Strat(to me) and close to being a US Strat without the $1000 price tag. I only paid $200 for it and if you know of anyone who has one, I think that they would say the same. Between my Strat and my Gibson Studio "Lite" they get the most of my attention, but the '59 Junior copy guitar I made and my recent addition of a short-scale Harmony H-74 hollowbody get alot of playing time as well lately. Every guitar has a different feel and flavor and to say that anyone would only play one certain guitar is losing out on tonal possiblities and inspirations that only come from playing different style guitars.
