Solution....for the prices they are charging, buy a player grade vintage guitar.

:laugh2: I tend to agree Mal. Thankfully there's the used market. Although, I've been playing my fenders a LOT more over the last year or two. I love Les Pauls, but I would NEVER pay full price for a new one. It just doesn't make sense to me. I do all my own work to my guitars, so defects and dud electronics don't bother me, and the money you save over paying the new guitar premium is outstanding.

That said, I've thought Hank was a joke for years, and it absolutely influences how I feel about the guitars. Petty? Maybe. Oh well.

Looks like Henry is having a bit of trouble lifting that non-weight relieved Trad.

Maybe instead of G-Force tuners he should get this.

I kinda wonder what it would take to get Gibson's reputation back on track with its base, at this point. I don't expect contrition, and don't really want it. Maybe if he just dug out the old business models and blueprints from the 60's, he could lock this shit back down. Price them competitively, simplify the product line.
What he just doesn't seem to get is that EVERYONE who wants a Gibson is living happily in the past, with no interest in "cutting edge" anything.

I think when it really comes down to it, the biggest reason Ol' Hank catches so much flack is because he can't accept that last sentence of yours. I don't think a single one of us here has any problem whatsoever with innovation and technology, but it doesn't have to come at the expense of the traditions us as guitar players expect from our instruments.

Look at Fender, they have some way out there stuff, but they never shit on their classic models to do so. Now look at Gibson...start with the dusk tiger. It's kinda goofy, but wasn't hurting anybody. Next the Firebird X...still its own thing, it only ran into serious trouble when Hank went with the marketing angle of "all existing guitar models are outdated and the people who like them are foolish for doing so." Now, you have a totally revamped version of a guitar that needed no revamping. You want a new Les Paul? Well it sure doesn't feel a whole lot like it ever did before. And that is not a good thing. All these gadgets should be options at best, not an across the board change of an established product.
