Oh,...and they let go a really good Artist Relations manager and replaced him with Henrys kid! The guy who posts meaningful things on facebook like, "My Daddy can beat up your Daddy!" Or posting pics of a trashed kitchen and bragging that he celebrated Cinco de Mayo in style!

That is class and professionalism there people! Take notes!

Why pay for an established and well liked Artist Relations Manager when you can get your goofy kid to do it!

And maybe if we're really lucky and wish upon a star, that goof will one day RUN GIBSON!

Does anyone have a link to the post in Historics for the Holy Son's FB page?

OK. this is funny!
When I bought my ibby I was shopping for a Les Paul, not a Jr. etc. My room mate goy a less Paul.
Sorry. I played his les and my '76 . At first his Les more than my '76 and as time went by I eventualy gave up on the LP and put it down. My '76 was better. I still wanted an LP but they were not "up to snuff".
I still like the SGs and I know I will get another.
I'll just get an older one. SGs are great and so versitile guits.
I think Gibson is riding on the coat tails of the name perhaps.
Inovations that many don't want? bimmeabreak

Is it just me being inexperianced/having tin can ears, or do epiphone and gibson/taylor/martin acoustics sound all fairly similar? enough so that theres no need to pay a premium price for brand name?

I would love to buy an american guitar, but at minimum wage and having to pay rent, its just never going to happen. Maybe if I made $25 an hour(seeing as its just me and my girlfriend, no family yet), maybe. Those Chinese/Indonesians make same damn fine guitars for the price compared to gibson though.

Guess Im a commie or something :laugh2:

Put black insulation tape over the logo. I've seen it done!

When I can afford it I'll have the R8 headstock redone with the Epiphone logo.

Holy Son? Hey man no religion on the board! Don't make me tell a Mo-...oh...well yes,..carry on than. :laugh2:

I think it was in the Historic section that I saw it, Henry. I didn't bookmark it though, sorry. I just clicked the link and started reading and was pretty surprised that this is supposed to be a grown man doing important work for Gibson.

It reads more like a typical goofy college students facebook. Very unprofessional.

...he also looks exactly like Wesley from the Princess Bride movie of the 80's,...which I found way more amusing then I should have. :laugh2:

I have a feeling Henry's only just started on his " lifestyle " quest
what will 2016 bring ?
the Gibson brand creepy moustache trimmer
the Gibson brand ear plugs free with every G Farce
and for the ultimate corksniffery that no corksniffers home should be without The Clownburst toilet seat although I'd pass on the sniffing

The 2015 Gibsons at NAMM looked really good. They were nice as well. That is a change. I guess with the huge price increase they have to be nice.

hilarious. It's a shame that they can't just focus on making good guitars and stop with the gimmics. I have a 2005 R8 and I still haven't found another LP I like better. It sounds amazing. They do make some good stuff if you can get past the crap. And never buy new!

Love the update Mal - more reason to buy used. I am happy with the Lesters I do own.:)

The sad truth is that modern-day Gibson is in the business of making money. Guitars are just a vehicle.

Funny… but, someone is laughing all the way to the bank!

BTW… Nice rant, Mal

On top of what Malikon said, potential buyers also get to pay top dollar for a commemorative logo that looks like it was done with a potato. And on top of that, for those who want aged guitars for that edgy poser vibe or for 50 shades of more of the same bursts, Gibson still offers those for a bit more than they used to charge!

Amazing. Keep at it with such innovations (if one could ever call them as such), Henry J.

Just out of curiosity, if Henry has owned gibson for so long, how come shit only hit the fan the past few years?

I just don't get why people and companies feel the need to constantly fvck with stuff. You made what many people, and I would say most people here, think is a perfect thing. Nothing you do to it, is going to make it better. Like changing one single note in Jimi's solo in All Along the Watchtower. It can't be improved on. It can be fine tuned to personal preferences, but the chassis needed no improvement. But no, lets gash great big holes in the sumbitch, cuz it might be too heavy for some players. Tough, get a great big strap or a SG. But why mess with the best sounding guitar body ever built? Why? Nothing Gibson has done since 1959 has improved the basic guts of that instrument. Its supposed to be heavy, its a SOLID body. Not a semi-hollow one, which is really what they are. Call it weight relieved, or chambered or whatever, its not solid anymore. That great big dense heavy hunk of wood is what made Lesters sound like Lesters. Its shocking that there is only one model of Gibby Lester that isn't hollow. And it has to add cost to the thing to do it, its another dude they gotta pay to take the wood out. Why? And now lets glue a butt ugly piece o electronic junk on the back of all of them., cuz, well, we can. And we can sell it to them as an "improvement". I love Gibson guitars, always have, always will, but what they are building now, is not a Gibson Les Paul. The changes are too profound to call it the same model. Its truly a shame.

The problem is that, unlike almost all other appliances, guitars can last a lifetime. So with a constant production outflow you'll have an ever increasing pool of available guitars. So any new 'traditional' guitar has to compete with the available pool of second-hand guitars.
Therefore it makes sense to innovate. However, to force these 'innovations' on almost your entire catalog is utterly deranged.

..unless you're incredibly confident that it has to be an all or nothing approach. The new range will make it hard for the counterfeiters to keep up, will reduce the life cycle of new guitars that are sold (meaning in theory that more people will buy more guitars over a period of time), and there will actually be some people who DO like G-Force. And perhaps it also opens the door for recurring revenue on G-Force units to be sold post-warranty.

I agree with you, why force all this crap on everyone? But obviously they believe that the benefits will outweigh the drawbacks.

After thinking about it, I really don't know. He had success and did a good job with Gibson guitars, but for some reason now feels the need to come up with things few are asking for and execute many of those things poorly.:hmm:
