Hello My Les Paul Friends. I have GAS bad for a Les Paul Custom Centipede Burst. They only make like 100 of these and it looks like a really sweet guitar. I like Slim Taper necks, and even though it is not Slim Taper, it is still the LP Custom neck and pretty close to a Slim Taper neck. I have the Les Paul Studio HP Slim Taper which is a little bit wider with the soloist neck and love it, so this one I don't think will be that much bigger.

I am looking for your thoughts about this fine beautiful instrument. Will it hold it's value or at least hold a good value over time if I of course keep it in Excellent condition. I keep all my guitars as pristine as possible, for resale as well as I just like a really clean beautiful guitar. I will keep my Les Paul Studio HP forever, that is definitely my never sell guitar, because you really can't get anything close to this for the price with the quality of it.

I have always wanted a Les Paul Custom with the front and back double line binding, which I think is what really signifies a Les Paul custom in my mind. I love a beautiful blue guitar as well, and these are definitely beautiful guitars. I know I like the pickups and everyone seems to really like the richlite fretboard on the new customs. Sure I would like it to have ebony, but that is just not the case anymore.

Well, if you already have a blueberry burst and a transparent purple and your "blue itch" isn't scratched yet, do it. I have three customs and two of those are black, so what do I know?

Do you have a Les Paul Standard? If so, how do your Customs compare to your Standard?

So... Anyone who has a Standard and a Custom, please chime in on what your thoughts are between them on the differences of what you like best about them or if there is anything in particular that you think stands out and makes them so different.

well,...for starters the Custom will be heavier...as much as 2lbs...It will also be Custom Shop made for recent Customs (since 2003)...which means the fit and finish are often spectacular....the tone would be subjective as is the overall feel...you need to pick one up and all your questions would be answered.

The comes with 2 bottles of Vaseline I hope?

This is why I think Gibson in 5 years will only be sold in used or vintage stores. They are pricing them selves OUT of the market, and reverting back to the old days of the dark ages. Anyone remember Gibson dishwashers and stoves in the 70's? I think the reason they are bowing out of NAMM 2018, is so they aren't a laughing stock.

Short answer, not even a little. $6K new and if you had to sell and had a ton of patience, I am guessing $4K would be top dollar but maybe you could find someone. Look at any used custom on reverb that isn't more than 20 years old and that will give you an idea of what a used custom is worth. This one MIGHT command a small premium but limited runs kind of seem a dime a dozen anymore.

I have a "standard" but it is a short run they did in 2004 or so that has an ebony board so it isn't a true standard I suppose. My standard is quite a bit brighter but maybe at times a little thin sounding when compared to my custom. The custom is amazing. I am going to be a pure enabler here but there is nothing like a custom. The feel of mine is fantastic. I love everything about it.

Way overpriced. If resale value is a high priority for you, look elsewhere. I'm not anti-Richlite, but don't expect it to command ebony prices.
That said, I absolutely understand the LPC GAS. I encourage you to investigate the used market.

I certainly understand the allure of a Custom. Had 1, foolishly sold it, got a 2nd.

Like you, I like the binding on 2 sides and the headstock.

As my bud @mudface said, my Customs were/are heavier.

My 1st was a Custom Shop, my 2nd (and present one) is a '91.

Terrific guits, both.

I also agree used market is the way to go.

If you get 1, I can't wait for your New Guitar Day

I have an 81 LPC in the hideous silverburst, that has turned to a greyish gangrene burst. Was cut for a Kahler sometime before I got it, and reverted back to standard TOM and tailpiece. (Still have a hole in it) Weighs about 10.5 pounds still, and I love it to death. Find a used one. You will NEVER regret it.

I'm betting it doesn't qualify for the 25% discount :)

I'm very happy with everything about my 2016 Standard T and not looking for another LP. If I were I'd definitely be looking for mint used and not new. New they're just too overpriced for my budget.

It's also a little too blue for me, personally I'd be looking for a more traditional color scheme in a custom or re-issue. Nice guitar tho :)

I haven’t weighed it but of all mine, the 2017 Nashville BB 3 PUP “custom” is heaviest guitar I’ve ever held...

[My] custom are friggin boat anchors....

Long live non-weight-relieved guitars!!!

Used rules. Paid $1700 for my 91 2 years ago. Despite the obvious difference in appearance in other LPs, customs feel and sound like no other Les Paul's.They rule.

Thank you everyone for all the information you have given me, it definitely gives me a lot to think about since this is a very big purchase for me whether I am going to search the new/or used markets for a Les Paul Custom.

It did not qualify for the 25% off, you are correct on that, but they did say they would give me $500 off. It also may qualify for 24 months with zero interest on a Gear Card. Definitely something to think about, but only $500 off still makes it a very expensive purchase and will take some very serious consideration.

As some of you have said, there is nothing like a custom and it really has me thinking about making the jump. I will definitely keep my Studio HP, it is a keeper forever even with this purchase. I will probably keep the Standard as well, the Custom would have to be one heck of a guitar to make me consider selling the Standard which I also love very much. I am also thinking about the Custom Les Paul Custom figured Orange Widow, which is very sweet as well, with Orange being my favorite color and I was GAS'n for one of those a year or so ago before my Standard and Studio HP purchases.

I of course would still like to hear more about the Custom's and what others think about them compared to there other Les Paul's.

My advice to everyone:
If possible, never sell a guitar u like...never

Simply save and/or wait until u can afford the “new” one while keeping the standard...

If u can afford it, get the custom and u will have a complete collection...
I’m an enabler but this is MLP
We’re all enablers

You have plenty of youtube comparison for this. :)

In general a custom, intended as that massive piece of wood with blings, has more darker/warmer/growly tone, but also an huge versatility that it's rare to get on a modern standard. I for example could play an Autumn Leaves and then swap to a Blackened on a custom, just messing with pup and tone/vol. I can't do this on a modern weight relief standard with those pickups. Too harsh, much less headroom for playing with dynamics. A traditional maybe can be a more similar voice, but still not there yet. Could be the density of the woods they use for Customs, or that crazy thickness of the tops, or a combination of factors...but they are unique, doesn't matter the year.

Point is, if you play only high gain bridge pup stuff, difference is really small if none. So you know what you need, depends on what you play. :)

Thank you Chris and Pier, I definitely don't use the Bridge all the time for hard rock stuff, but definitely like to play Crazy Train or Bark at the Moon on the Bridge when rocking it out. I really like all the bling as well as a nice dark deep growly tone that I have heard on some of the youtube videos. I just have to wait for the right one to come along, and I think I will snatch it up.
