It's never good news!

My 16 year old son was riding around with a couple of friends last night about 11 o'clock coming home. He was in the back seat of a Honda Civic. They had stopped to turn across traffic into a gas station and a girl in a pickup rear-ended them. We got a call from the ambulance driver telling us that he had been in a wreck and was ok but his neck had some swelling. He wanted to know if we wanted him to transport him to the ER or if we wanted to get him. He said if we got him he would still recommend we have him checked out. By his comments I thought it was pretty minor so I told him we would be there in a few minutes and we would take him.

My wife and I went to the ambulance and the EMT walked me over to the car and showed me where my son's head had put a hole in the rear window and had knocked the back glass out of the frame  The impact completely pushed the trunk into the back seat, the two front seats broke and were laying back flat, and the radio was even knocked out of the dash! The EMT seemed more concerned about my son than he had acted on the phone and I told him to transport him. The other two boys in the car were uninjured.

So after numerous tests and x-rays they determined he would be fine and sent all of us home after several hours. He seems fine today just really sore. My son was laughing though because he said that when he was trying to get out of the car the driver didn't realize he was getting out on his side and shut the door hitting my son in the head again.

Anyway I just hate when the phone rings at night!

Ah dude I'm sorry to hear that.
Hope he's feeling better.
Once 11:00 rolls around my dad starts to call me. I can definately see his concern.
2 friends of mine and 1 acquaintance just got in a 3 car accident. Two were stopped and one was playing with the radio

Last September, I got the dreaded 2:00AM phone call. It is scary as hell...your brain races thinking who's hurt, who died?

A friend of my daughter in New York calls and says my daughter was suddenly hospitalized with an undetermined illness causing severe abdominal pain...it was so bad she needed morphine. So, I fly up to NYC a few hours later. It takes two days to diagnose an intestinal parasite that she apparently got drinking water in a foreign country some 2 weeks before. She recovered after 4 days in the hospital. What a nightmare, but a good ending.

Sorry about your son's accident. Hope he's OK.:fingersx:

Damn man! Glad he's ok. Late night accidents are the worst because it's either people who are too tired or too DRUNK to be driving. :(

When will people learn?

My phone call was early morning. I Lost my youngest sister that day.

I hope your son recovers quickly, it could have been much worse.

I hate it too. It gives you that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach.

My son gigs til 2 or 3 am most weekends, and I always have him shake me and let me know he's home.

Thanks for your well wishes.

It could have very easily had a very tragic ending. I felt really bad for the girl that hit them though. Apparently there was a third vehicle involved that caused her to hit them but they were long gone. My son said she had just moved here and started school a week or two ago. She was sitting in the truck crying and I went over and asked her if she was ok. Her mother was standing beside the truck and was furious! The mother said, "She won't be by the time I get through with her." The girl said she didn't mean to hurt anyone and I told her everybody was fine, just calm down and take some deep breaths. I wanted to give her a hug but looking at the mother and how angry she was I decided against it and just assured her again things will be fine and walked off.

Rodney,
Glad to hear your son is alright. I'll tell you, as a retired NYPD Detective, making those kinds of notifications were one of the most depressing things I had to do. Especially when they turned out worse..
