I had a revelation about drinking today

Also, for me, drinking was but a symptom of the real problem.... ME.
I drank to avoid ME. I drank, because I hated being sober. Its the only reprieve I ever got. Until I started working those steps, then I was set free, to love myself for who I am, and you know what?
I finally met the real me, and hes a pretty decent guy. I never knew that, because I spent my whole life running from ME. Someone finally got me to stop running, give myself a hug, and when I finally got happy with who I was, and found that inner peace in the promises, I get to give it away, and the great paradox is that I end up giving even more to myself.

Ryan... Go get it, its there for you too. Know what? Its free too.

Hey.. look at it this way. I sort of felt the same way until I went to an AA outing at a lake in VA. There was about 400 people and not a drop of booze around!! Folks brought boats to take people out for rides and stuff like that. Lots of great food and fun. I had the best time of my life.

Go to one and see how much better it is.

bling, i used to hang out in a chatroom and one day a guy comes in and after some talk he says "i admire you. you're different but you've found your own path in life. i tried to be myself and find my own path with drugs, but i ended up in jail and that ruined it for me" (or something to that effect). my reply was this..."drugs as a life, are not a way to find your own path to who you are or what you need to be happy, they are a way to avoid finding that path"

you cant go around tarnishing everyone who has a social piss up once in a while though! drinking is a social thing and people will do it when socialising, dosnt meen they wake up with a smashed up car and puke everywere does it, for most they just had a good laugh. its not a good idea to try and think of them in the pics as good for nothing wasters unless you know damn well they are, you just got to seperate your self from that and tell your self its not for you, its a tough one, im sure you know what im trying to say!

people drink while socializing because they are not comfortable in there own skin enough to do it sober...

I think that if that helps you to stay clean then it is a good thought to have. But couldn't that view quickly devolve into judgement against others that are able to enjoy a beer without going overboard? My best friend in college got it bad, he was hiding booze and drinking all day. His only choice was complete abstinence and it took alot of effort. But he knew that was only the course of action for him, and were he able to enjoy a beer without going off the deepend he would. he didn't have a problem with people who were able to do that, but he knew he couldn't. You are looking at pics from a party, of course it is going to be the excesses, people don't take a picture of themselves just enjoying a glass of wine with dinner. In the end you have to take care of yourself, if that means demonizing people that drink, then that is waht you have to do. Good luck, I hope you find sobriety.

Just dont build unneeded judgements against others, remember that some can drink without trouble like ours, and resentments are the number 1 killer of every alcoholic.

it is a poison.
it is a socializer because it alters people's state of mind
ask yourself why you drink.
it changes who you are.
i will never have a chemical change who i am.
i will never have something control me.
i judge every single person who drinks.
