What year is your Cherry Burst. Looks Norlin Era. How does it compare to your more modern LPC (on the right). Here's my 84 - very similar to yours! This 84 feels the "best" out of all my LPs but the pickups are so low output (6.99 on bridge, 7.01 on neck) and don't drive an amp all that well. Does your more modern LPC also have significantly higher output than your Norlins?

My CSB Custom is a 1978.... to the left is a 1977 BB Custom and to the right of the CSB is a 2011 BB Custom similar to the OP's.

The '77 and '78 have T-Top pickups and are about 7.5 to 8.5 K output...... about the the same as todays Custombuckers.... and drive an amp very well.

The 2011 has the higher output 490 series pickups..... excellent for high gain.

The '77 and '78 have way thinner necks than the 2011..... not that the 2011 is fat, it's more like a thin '59..... the Norlins are just very thin. i had the '78 since 1980.... so 40 years means i like it pretty well.;)

Thank you mudface. Appreciate the info. If I didn't have any other guitar and just played my 84 Custom, I would think it's the sweetest thing in the world! But because I have a 2007 LPC and 2019 Standard 60's, the modern ones (to me) sound so much better!

I'll have to find someone local that also has a Shaw LP to see if my 84 is just "different".

Thanks again.

Got the same "problem!" The Strat, Tele, Epi ES339 and Ibanez 2455 don't get much playing time since I got my
CS Modern Standard last summer. Love everything about it, color, weight relief, neck, action and Burstbucker pickups!

Isn't it funny how guitars re like women. When you find one that's working for you. Giving you what you want, how you want it. You start thinking. "Man if I only had two like this". DB&WR.JPG And so on and so on.

It's beautiful but it throws me off to see a Les Paul with a natural finished flamed maple top. I keep expecting a sunburst. When I see a beautiful natural top like that I expect it to be on a PRS.

I'm addicted to my LP Custom and I just can never get tired of it. This model is a 2011 I believe. It's been my number one since I got it 3 years ago Just an awesome guitar all around. Neck is perfect. Action isn't too low or too high. Pick-ups are high output and have a nice warm feeling. I want another Custom at some point. I wish they still made the Custom Lite.

Been playing it for a good 2 hours a day since the pandemic. Working from home gives me extra time for toys! :]

How come the gold plating is so pristine? Doesn't look all that played. Is Gibson doing something different to preserve the plating on thesae newer ones? I love the look when the gold starts to wear -- as on my '87 LP/SG Custom.
