Damn thing just wont go away. Its pretty much only on IE or Chrome, lots of pop-ups and it even tells you "Ads not by this site".

CraigsList is a nightmare to try to navigate, even here it bogs me down with all kinds of crap.

Anyone have suggestions? Ive tried AVG Antivirus, MS Security Essentials, Spyware Blaster, & Malwarebytes.

It's probably a registry issue. I was going to suggest malwarebytes but if it isn't working.. Try CC cleaner

If it happens in IE, try doing a reset to default settings in the IE advanced settings. If it is a running process, you can also give 'rkill' a try and it will kill every running process and give you a list of what it finds at the end. And there is also the good old standby, Combofix. Not as useful as it once was but can still fix some things that others seem to miss.

firstly stop using internet explorer. it sucks. second get adblock for chrome. works wonders

3rd I would give combofix a try. its helped me out a few situations where other programs seem to miss things.

( in a sense ) I would have to agree . most viruses that are that difficult to get rid of __ have done some sort of fun things to your registry

two other places that they like to lurk is in your ( hidden ) temp files __ where they enter your system . and the system32 directory let's not think about that yet

CCleaner might solve the problem for you __ but don't install anything titled " CC Cleaner " ( sorry bildozr . a common mistake )

1 - Back up all of your important data, now. Don't do anything else until you have completed this. Don't reboot, don't do anything until you back up your data.

Here is the ccleaner (one "c" plus "cleaner") review and download link from Cnet.
CCleaner - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

If you can ID the culprint, there is more than likely a tool (or methodology) for getting rid of it.

Sometimes, you have to use a bunch of things (like AVG, superantispy, malbytes, Ccleaner, etc) and then follow some specific instructions on getting some gunk out of your registry.

Take a look at recently installed software. See if there is something there that might be suspect (i.e. installed around the time the problem began, doesn't look like something you intentionally installed, etc.). If you find something, google the name of it (and the *.exe string).

If the guy who wrote the virus has any skill, it will reinstall itself every time you almost get rid of it and reboot.

There is suposed to be some new "anti adblock" software around (which detects if you have adblock installed and ignores it).
It could be something related to that (that is, if you have adblock/flashblock related addons installed).
Some function in the anti adblock not working properly or something like that...

Just making up a possibility

I've noticed attacks on Chrome using extensions that are invisible when trying to locate them and can't manually turn off.

I stopped using chrome.

Reboot your computer in safe mode with networking and download Spybot Search and Destroy from CNET downloads. It's free and does a good job. By working in safe mode you can possibly bypass the virus (if won't be loaded at start up) and find it and remove it. You can also do a system restore to an earlier day as well.

Chrome is well known for issues. Some people prefer Firefox but all browsers will have issues......You have to pick the lesser evil and what works for you.

run System Restore. its part of Windows. it saves your personal stuff but sets the OS back to where it was earlier

it should fix it, tho you may have to go back further in time (an older restore point) if it doesnt

Uninstall Chrome, manually delete whatever remains, do a default settings reset in IE and reboot the system. If you really cannot get rid of it, I can always connect to your system using Teamviewer and clean it up for you if you wish.

Be careful with Cnet DL's. Most of them come with a LOT of bloatware.

Check FileHippo first. Ccleaner from FileHippo is clean and recommended by Piriform (maker of Ccleaner).

Some viruses won't let you connect to known AV sites, or run Task Manager, etc. If that's the case, DL the file to another computer and put it on a disc and run it from there.

Definitely go into safe mode before you run malwarebytes, ccleaner, spybot, etc. The easiest fixes are just running these AV's in safe mode. The pain in the ass ones will load in safe mode somehow. It would be best to determine exactly which virus or virii you have.

Chrome.. no thanks.

Trust for google = 0

You can run a program like combofix, but it's heavy duty stuff so you may want to try everything else first.

Be aware there's a certain point where you spend more time trying to get rid of the virus than you could of just backed up, reformatted, etc. Windows 7 actually does the backup automatically.

Some virus's will just never go away unless you reformat.
